I honestly dont think so.

Jokic definitely “pads” his rebound stats to a small extent, Ive noticed he sometimes grabs away boards that a teammate was about to secure. It’s not indefensible since technically the only way a player can GUARANTEE a rebound is to get it themselves, it could otherwise be fumbled or stripped etc. It’s not the same as throwing up a needless shot just to rebound it. But there are definitely times Joker will reach out for a ball thats headed to a teammate with nobody around, and grab the rebound for himself.

Again, it’s harmless, but you could call it “padding” in a way. I think hes actually showing a bit of playful self awareness there.

Yea everyone pads rebound stats. I remember Kevin Love a couple years ago talking about how he Bron and Drummond would all steal rebounds from each other and that it wasn't weird or abnormal at all around the league in general.

To be fair, Davis tossed the ball off his own teams backboard so that he could get the rebound. What Giannis did was obvious, but what Davis did was blatant.

Personally, I feel like the NBA should let the players have the stats and let them sort it out organically, like the Suns taking exception to Zion's dunk. Let that create rivalries.

It's not like Westbrook who doesn't defend just to stay in the rebound zone when the game is on the line and he needs 1 more rb to get his triple double.


In Giannis case it's like Shaq trying to get a 3pt shot made at the end of the game when nothing is on the line anymore, i see no problem with it.

And it was funny for him and his team at time. That was the main objective, right.

The NBA decided the joke was over and corrected the stats because the rule states he had to attempt a legitimate shot for it to count.
