It looks weird but I can see her pov. She might've though Klay had no clear possession and control of the ball after the pass before he picked it up. Just like a receiver in the NFL has to have clear possession of the ball before hitting turf/out of bounds. For me he has enough control to call that a double dribble.

These days players consider the hand shadow fake pickup that’s a double dribble about 20% of the time a “move”. It must be hard to tell when it is or isn’t from the angles refs have. It’s a fake shot fake….that is unguardable when they also let you carry up into it. It’s rigged for scorers. And the league is happy about it.

Half the league has it or some variation. It’s designed to mimic going up for a shot without actually having to discontinue your dribble, and it throws people off, of course. Problem is even when it isn’t a double dribble its usually a Carrie.

Especially since growing up you're taught to jump players you notice are in the process of picking up the ball.

Ok. I was thinking you were meaning more on the lines of this:

Kyrie did it the mostly legal way. But guys are fully touching it at times and doing it too quick to tell full speed. They’re professional rule benders so they get the benefit when they break them at times. It really is just unstoppable.

What choice do you have but to honor the shot fake when a guy like this flat out picks up his dribble?

And they call it a “move”? That’s being in your bag. The defense is helpless.
