Here is a battle between Mike's two best LP's.

Off the Wall was released in 1979 a year after the Jacksons released their Destiny LP. Off the Wall was the first LP to feature 4 top 10 singles, (two of them Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough & Rock With You went to # 1 and the other 2 were #10) It has sold more then 7 million in the US and 16 million world wide.

No contest.

Which album's songs are still played in clubs, on the radio, remixed all the time? The album that launched the era of made-for-TV expensive music videos. The album that created the signature freak.

Thrilla.

Thriller....

are you saying that Billie Jean wasn't top 10?

it had to be #1 at some point in time....

Have any of you heard both albums or y'all just saying Thriller because it's the biggest selling album ever?

I've heard them both, and am listening to the Thriller album now... and will listen to Off The Wall right after. (wearing sparkly glove, and doing moonwalk Ow!!)

off the wall actually works better in clubs than thriller does. Dont stop till you get enough is a tight jam and better than anything on thriller IMO. Yes I know thriller is a masterpiece, but pop aint my thing, off the wall is much more live.

Great, somebody who rocks Off the Wall.

I'd go with Off the Wall myself. It's more funky and soulful then Thriller but Thriller is not to far behind as my second favorite (adult) Mike solo joint.

Jams like "Get On The Floor", "Working Day and Night" and "I Can't Help" is what takes it over the top.

I like Off the Wall better. Burn this Disco out actually is my favourite  , though that may be because if listened to thriller, beat it, billie jean etc too often already. Off the Wall is more funky, so I like it better.

I think that Off the Wall is the better album but Thriller was obviously the bigger success.

Thrilla.Actually outside of PYT and Wanna Be Startin Somethin, you would be lucky to hear anything off Thriller in the clubs. Off the Wall has the club jams. I hear a track from the Off the Wall LP in the club weekly, no matter what city I am in. Off the Wall still runs discos everywhere.

I Can't Help It has to be one of the most underrated songs of all time. Although Thriller has The Lady In My Life. It's definitely a toss up but Off The Wall might be slightly better.

you really can't go wrong with either one... but i'd go with "off the wall". i like 'rock with you' better than any song on "thriller", except maybe 'PYT'.

i own both albums, and it is not a contest. thriller has more of everything. i've really tried to get into off the wall, but the only really great songs on that album is rock with you and dont stop til.... thriller owns off the wall. so does bad, by the way.

Thriller is a better album... Off The Wall's pretty good, but I don't much care for its sound.

Nothing beats Dangerous for me though. JAMMMMMMM

its pretty hard to choose for me. They are both pretty badass. Thriller may have sold more but it wasnt b/c it was a way better album. MTV played a major role. Thriller was released at just the right time to be as big as it was. Hell, I think Bad is just as strong an overall album but it didnt do near the sales of Thriller either.

I would really say it depends what mood I'm in.

i was listening to "off the wall" at the time of my other post and now am listening to "thriller"... i retract that other statement, i think "thriller" is better. i still think they're both amazing however. bruce swedien is ridiculous behind those mixing boards.

I like Thriller better.

I love Off the Wall start to finish, though. I think it was Izzo who said that "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" is a better dance song than anything on Thriller. That song is raw just dancing straight through, and I like the overall rawness of Off The Wall's r&b/disco sound.

Thing is, though, Thriller wasn't a worldwide phenomenon of a seller for no reason. The production was considerably stronger while still keeping that r&b sound that Michael came out with on Off The Wall. The songwriting was another level up from Off The Wall, more o Michael's personality came out on the record, and Thriller has more dynamic variety, largely because of some risks taken on that album, like creating an elaborate scary movie theme song (just the song itself was elaborate, I'm not talking about the video), making a rock song, long intros for some songs...all of this could have backfired.

Comparing these two albums may be unfair, though. Two of my favorite albums ever. But to me Off The Wall is simply one of those albums you could listen to straight through and just enjoy. Thriller sounds like a greatest hits collection it's so good.

Off the Wall is better than Thriller for the same reasons why 2pac's "Me Against the World" was better than "All Eyez on Me"

I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan, both are great albums. I wish I had Off the wall, but I only own, Thriller, Bad and Dangerous. I probably lean towards Thriller for the simple fact that I've heard it more often. But I could easily change my mind after listening to Off the wall again.

Michael has some of the best production ever.

Out of those two.....Thriller.

Human Nature
PYT
The Lady In My Life

are just too great for OTW to overcome imo

I do prefer Bad to those two though. Another part of me is my jam.

I'd go with Off The Wall. Like someone else said in a previous post, Thriller is GREAT, but I love MJ's more disco-style tracks like the ones on Off The Wall. I'm not one of those dudes who downloads by the album, and between the two, I have more songs off Off The Wall than Thriller.
