At that time, Bryant was suffering from back spasms and was in danger to miss his game against Carter and the Toronto Raptors. However, the narrative behind it was Bryant may be avoiding his highly-awaited matchup against the high-flying Raptors shooting guard – something Bryant wasn’t thrilled to hear.

“As a competitor, I’m not ducking sh*t. Like it’s not, ‘Oh my God my back hurts, I’m sore. We got to play Vince Carter and Toronto Raptors tonight,” he added. “Vince was tearing the league up. My back was jacked. But like the perception of that. Like what? ‘Kobe’s missing the game against Toronto, Vince Carter…But people will be like, ‘What? Oh, he’s ducking Vince.’ Excuse me? No, I don’t think so.”

So I’ll be in the layup line like, ‘Ok, there’s going to be a lot of days where you know you can rest and recover. Today ain’t one of them. Your back can bother you any other day. That shit ain’t bothering me today. He (Vince Carter) gonna have to see me today.” Kobe narrated.

I believe it’s this game:

I will never get why dumbass Bron stans and Kobe haters like this loser here bring up this incident as if its some indictment on Kobe. Childs basically sucker punches Kobe (its a sneaky attack for sure) and he still manages to miss the target twice before retreating like a coward.

Not to mention the incident has zero relevance to the OP. But then again, Bron stans. Thats your whole explanation right there.

People who's never been stars in anything won't understand what a true competitor Kobe was. I called it hero ball. I called it bad for the team. But I can't deny his mentality was psychopath-like.

He's been shooting like ass the whole season and his last game started this way:

K. Bryant misses 3-pt jump shot from 24 ft
K. Bryant misses 2-pt jump shot from 19 ft
K. Bryant misses 2-pt layup from 1 ft
K. Bryant misses 2-pt jump shot from 4 ft
Turnover by K. Bryant (lost ball; steal by R. Hood)
K. Bryant misses 2-pt jump shot from 17 ft

And he just kept attacking. 99% of people would've accepted by mid-season they don't have it anymore. The pressure would've been overwhelming. Have a sense of shame and guilt. Maybe pass the ball more, be a mentor, get a nice ride into the sunset.

Not Kobe. Guy's just built different.

Not really a sucker punch when you bump him…he elbows you…and you’re looking each other right in the face. That’s just a fight. The beginning of fights don’t have to be verbally announced.

Ok, so what is Kobe supposed to do there to not be mocked by Bronies? Hes clearly not expecting that the doofus attacks him.

He had a little scuffle and punches were thrown, and then it was over. He wasn’t supposed to do anything different. What does it matter what some fan has to say about it 20 years later? It was a fight and he got punched. People will have fun with it. People laughed at it on here before Lebron was even in the nba. That’s what happens when a famous person gets punched. Laughs.

Theres nothing to do about it 20 years later.
