Not shocking. This is something that the players think should be lowered in theory but in reality would end the careers of some of the members of the union so they pretend to fight for it so that they can get something back from the owners to concede the point.

which is stupid. Add the extra two Gleague teams and have a real minor league system. The best players in the league. The rest in the minors or college or overseas. Sounds like they still don't want to have to scout high schools and the players don't want to give them more thorough vetting pre draft

NBA owners and executives were largely indifferent or fully against returning to high school gymnasiums to evaluate players, and even less enthusiastic about that idea without concessions from the NBPA on providing increased access to pre-draft player medical information and increased participation in several elements of the draft combine, (https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/36018751/sources-nba-nbpa-table-minimum-age-discussion-cba-talks) sources said.

For the players it isn't stupid at all. The age limit would let in new players and get current NBPA members out of the league faster. None of this is about player development or whatever issue they pretend to be concerned with.

it is stupid. No one has to lose their job if you have a minor league system. Most rookies shouldn't be playing right away

Every year there are guys good enough to play in the NBA out of high school. James and Stoudamire won rookie of the year right out of high school. Wembanyama, Brandon Miller and a few other 18 and 19 year old could have helped an NBA team this year, especially the kind of bad team that gets a high pick.

More guys that have watered down the league the past 30 years because they were taking roster spots and rotation spots from better players based on potential

Even if that's true thar means they are replacing current NBPA members and thus the NBPA has no reason to want the age to be lowered.

On a side note there are plenty of guys taking up roster spots that don't play and there is no proof that the guys that go to college for a semester are becoming better players than the guys that skipped it entirely.

they don't have to be replaced with larger rosters and a minor league system though. More roster spots. They've been losing spots the past 3 decades to kids that weren't ready but had upside

Larger rosters without an increase in BRI share means they all make less money. Overall may not be bad for the players but the few jobs it saves is counterbalanced by the negative of less money. The NBA already has multiple minor leagues for players that aren't ready for it to develop. NCAA and international leagues have done it for years at no expense and now they also have the G League. You are searching for a solution to a problem that no one cares about. That's why the age limit is staying in place.

The guys in the league get paid more. The guys that have upside in the Gleague get paid less. Ridiculous to be paying guys millions based purely on potential

Why is it hard to understand that the players have no reason to care about this?

They might not. Be a better league though than continually watching guys that aren't good enough because they have potential

There is an increase in two-way contract slots, jumping from two to three per team. (https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/36025332/nba-nbpa-agree-new-7-year-collective-bargaining-agreement) Two-way contracts were created in the 2017 collective bargaining agreement as a vehicle for teams to develop younger players. It has been seen as a success, as it’s become a route to players earning long-term homes in the league, and in several cases becoming major contributors.
