A couple days ago a chipotle opened in my neighborhood. It is not the first chipotle in the city. Nor is it the second. I don’t even think it’s the third. But it’s right outside our neighborhood and it seems like everyone just had to try it because it’s there. And I don’t exempt myself. I actually got up last night and put on pants to drive over there. Figuring it will be quicker to go in then to get it delivered. I got there and the line was almost out the door. I quickly turned and went home and ordered it on DoorDash and about 40 minutes later, received a notification that the driver canceled my order due to unforeseen issues which of course just means they were backed up and he didn’t feel like waiting.
there is nothing special about chipotle. I’ve been to it and better places of it type many times. But it was new and available and I felt compelled to go try that new chicken.
In retrospect, I’m a little ashamed of my conduct.
Having said that, I will now shabbily tie that story you didn’t need to basketball by asking you the following….
Which of the league’s new young stars are you most excited about?
Banchero? Cade? Mobley? Jalen? Edwards or Haliburton if you count them?
which new thing are you most excited to see for no reason but it being New and available?

chipotle is mediocre at best. I might go there occasionally if I lived somewhere where they didn’t really have any other mexican food. here there are just better options everywhere

I am looking forward to seeing if Lamelo can add enough substance to his flashy game to have a decent career.
I don't watch much basketball because I think it has gotten boring and monotonous, every team and player plays the same way as if they were robots but Melo has a real joy and flair for playing the game.

I actually forgot Lamelo. He does have some of that Pistol Pete “Why not?” in him and I respect it.

Does Zion still count? He turns 23 in July. We still need to see a healthy season out of him. I see talent in a lot of players 22 and younger right now, but none that I would say that 'excite' me enough where I need to check on them nightly. Wagner and Haliburton come close for me
As a team, however, I will say I am looking forward to where OKC goes from here. That's team stacked with young talent. I like guys like Giddey, Dort, and Jalen Williams, plus Chet will debut next season. They were supposed to be a lotto team this year ,yet we may very well see them in the play in. And even if they don't, they seem primed to make the leap in 2023-24

for what I’m looking for when I’m out for a burrito or a bowl? Chipotle and Moes are better than the authentic places. In my experience in authentic things I made the way they are because it taste better. Taste buds don’t care about tradition or authenticity. Not that I’m saying you were saying that. It’s just a usual complaint about Americanized ethnic foods.

The new that has gone unnoticed. Wilson brand basketball. Spalding is no longer the official brand of the NBA.
Last time they made a major change in the ball (not the brand) back in 2006, they got a lot of complaints and changed it back after 2 months maybe.
I guess this one is goin well, no complaints.

yeah Zion still counts. Is getting to that point where you wonder if he can maintain but I remind myself Embiid played 31 games in his first three seasons, so you never know

its not about authenticity. chipotle is just not that good. i always find it bland and cold. also 'authentic places' have a pretty broad range of quality depending on the business. could be mediocre or bad, or could be something mindblowingly special that you cant find anywhere else. with chains you always know you're gonna get something satisfactory if not standard, but never mindblowing. so apples and oranges.

My girlfriend loves Mexican so I’ve had it in like 8 states the last couple years including old ass highly rated places in Texas that are supposed to be authentic.
Most satisfactory burrito I’ve ever had?
Probably the first Moe’s homewrecker I ever had. I have never had Mexican food that blew me away.
I’ve had good…fine meals. Nothing I ever thought “We gotta come back here” about.

I think it’s more of old mexican grandmas are just way better at making food then random teenagers at a corporate chain

You’re absolutely right about that of course. But being skilled at making something built for the pallet of your family from another culture, doesn’t mean it tastes better to outsiders. my grandma made really good so called Soulfood but I don’t know that a Mongolian would like it more than fried pork chops altered to fit his cultures tastes.

I see what you are saying but even at the most authentic places you can get asada burrito with cheese or a torta which is basically a mexican philly cheese steak. Hard to go wrong with those even if you aren’t a big fan of mexican food

Too many burrito type things are covered in cheese or sauce when I’m in Mexican restaurants. I just want something I can pick up and eat neatly. If I need a knife and fork, I will pass for the most part. I like a good Americanized taco salad. I do enjoy carnitas at times. And a fajita I can build. But mostly just Americanized things it seems.

Chipotle and Mexican food aren't the same though. I get taco bell or chipotle when I'm in the mood for specifically those places. The flavors are completely unique to them.
When I'm in the mood for Mexican I'll go elsewhere.

Beans are against my religion.
I got brown rice half Al pastor chicken half steak, guac, fajitas, corn salsa, cheese, and sour cream. And a izze drink which I didn’t even know came in 16 ounces.

White people love bad mexican food, just look at that line. :oldlol:
There is this popular mexican spot in my town that has pretty mediocre food. Only good thing they have is the bean dip. Has like 1,000+ reviews on yelp, but most of the customers are white.

You live in SC right, is your town mostly white? Or do black people generally not like Mexican food?

I definitely understand the beans thing. Not putting anything with any sort of heat on my bowl is against mine.

I'm pretty high on all of those. From what I've seen of them, Banchero probably has the highest ceiling. The dude's a beast.
