fight all year for the playoffs, throw in the towel with 2 games left when its still basically a 50/50 shout to make the play-in...

Actually, it makes perfect sense what they did. If they fight and make the play-in, they lose their 1st round draft pick this year. So not only that.. they would then have to win 2 road “play-in”games and the big grand prize for all that? You play against jokic 1st round, with Dwight powell as your starting center guarding nikola jokic….. no it makes perfect sense what they did
Now back to celebrating Luka missing the playoffs I go…..rock the casbah rock the casbah  (insert Kyrie dancing gif)

who cares about a 1st round draft pick if you got Doncic and Kyrie healthy together in the playoffs. Stranger things have happened.
The thing is theyre tanking and are the 11th seed now...
even if they fought for the 10th seed which would give them the playoff opportunity, aka what they wanted all year; if they wouldnt make it they would still be.... the 11th seed.

"Doncic and Kyrie healthy" has done **** all to make the Mavs think they are worth a crap in the playoffs. But with that said I agree that the late tank job sucks. What little talent they had outside of Doncic was mortgaged for this shot with Irving so they should see it through to the bitter end. The tenth pick in the draft isn't normally a star and some or later Dallas has to give the Knicks a pick, no? The way things have been going the pick they end up giving the Knicks could well be higher if they surrender it after future seasons of ineptitude. They are acting like they will be fine with the tenth pick and a few free agent signings when they are relying on Kyrie Irving to stay which means they will have to max him and some 19 year old with good but not great talent.
Really they are screwed no matter what they do but every player in the mavericks except for Irving assuming he is offered the max should be thinking about his prone. If you are a roleplayer in that team why are you counting on staying with a team that is giving up on the season because they don't think that they can win and is going to draft your replacement? It's all bad.

All they need to do is resign Kyrie and get a couple good role players. Lets say they managed to sign Poeltl and Cam Johnson, that team is suddenly really solid. They also should be planning to trade the pick for veteran depth.

A shot at Wabamba, even if it’s a 1% chance is still a better chance than this mavs team has at winning a title. So they went for it. Luka doesn’t have a shot in hell of winning 2 play-in road games, then 4 road series in a row. You can’t be this delusional….even Luka himself and all his teammates who agreed to sit are not this delusional:oldlol:

Tanking or not, the Mav were not going anywhere with Kyrie. There was no chemistry, Kyrie sucks! at best he is the 3rd option on a well establish championship contender team. When he won the championship with Lebron, he ran away from him, wanting to prove he could do it him being the man, got to Boston and he couldn't do jack sh*t, missed games and promised he was staying, turned around and quit on them and somehow, he ended up in Brooklyn, and almost singlehandedly jeopardize the whole franchise with his reluctance to play and being available to the team, with his stupid actions and doing whatever it took for him to NOT play. He is a "cancer" no matter how you look at it.

I am not a fan of Kyrie but he has been good in Dallas. The lack of defense on the roster is their big problem.

Really boils down to playing winning basketball and Luka hasn't figured out how to do that because his style doesn't elevate the players around him.

He's quite skillful and can play well. But like what 87 said before, he isn't exactly the game changer that dallas hoped him to be.

It’s not kyrie or Lukas fault. The team is just bad. Speaking as a laker fan I know personally what a team looks like when you have a few elite guys and crap roster behind them. 2 to 3 superstar teams don’t work anymore. They got rid of dinwiddie and glue guy DFS, their last scrappy role players. Who’s mavs 3rd best player? THJ? That guy would be the 8th man on a contending teams rotation. Don’t blame luka and kyrie, blame the front office and their crappy coach who openly derides self accountability. And now they are robbing fans of a play in tourney for draft speculation. Very stupid. Theres no real plan here

Tim MacMahon: NBA spokesman Mike Bass: “The NBA commenced an investigation today into the facts and circumstances surrounding the Dallas Mavericks’ roster decisions [including sitting Luka Doncic after one quarter] and game conduct with respect to last night’s Chicago Bulls-Mavericks game, including the motivations behind those actions.” (https://*********.com/social/)

Has nothing to do with Kyrie, who played quite well. Luka and him didn’t get enough time together but more importantly the team had absolutely no defense or rebounding. So that was by far the biggest issue, nothing else. That would keep them from advancing in playoff basketball, where both of those are most important. Kyrie hating agenda using this as a primary reason, are retarded. They lost a number of games within 3 - 4 points or in OT that they very easily could’ve also won. And all of this talk would moot.

I mean, technically they were not out of the play-in with a win last night.
So, it was a blatant tank game.
Watch everyone suit up tomorrow in a meaningless game.

Mark Cuban needs to step away from basketball decisions.
This guy loves NBA a lot but is clearly turning into Jerry Jones type owner.

I will be laughing for days if they lose their pick over this. Of all the all time greats for his career to follow I never would have said Luka would be the new Garnett.

I've supported Cuban because he isn't a racist and actually builds teams around euros, but he is dumb and a horrible GM.

They actually did have if Kidd had played Javale and Wood together.
They should have played Javale and Wood as their starters since the Kyrie trade.

True. The team's biggest success only happened during early 10s and t'was when dirk was still active in the league.

That really isn't a big enough penalty to keep a team from doing this on the future...but in the flop side the difference between the 10th pick and the 15th pick should keep this kind of two game tank from being frequent.
Does the NBA give a higher percentage of TV revenue to playoffs teams? Because of they really wanted to end tanking they could just tie tv revenue to how far a team goes in the playoffs. But in a major way, make the difference in the tens of millions.
Of course that's not the goal.

hosting a playoff game is a lot of money. Might not be that much to Cuban but I know it's been a lot to the small market Jazz in the past

I don't think that's going to happen. Kyrie skipped the exit interview and the Mavs weren't even his team of choice to be traded to. Plus he got to see what Kyrie and Luka look like together. Losing basketball. The only reason he would stay is to get more money versus going somewhere else.
