The Toronto Raptors have fired coach Nick Nurse.

Ime Udoka is expected to be a serious candidate to replace Nurse.

he got as much as he could out of the group he had to work with.
I think it is a shame he was fired / but Toronto will find out the hard way.

Nurse will be picked up in less than a month ...

Yup, it was him on the court playing like ass.

Change my mind; coaches are overrated.

They can be but Nurse is not one of them. The team just wasn't good enough to start the season and the FO gave up assets for Poeltl at the deadline instead of going into a rebuild and getting a bunch of picks for OG. They did go 15 - 11 in their last 26 games after that trade so Poeltl was a great fit but that trade came too late. They just didn't have the size for most of the season, could have easily been a 5-6 seed if they had Poeltl earlier.

More like "mutually parting ways". :D

Still, as a Raptors fan, thank you Coach Nick Nurse and hope for his best in the future.

Next, any other next head coach candidates than Ime Udoka?

I wish the 1998 Utah Jazz had him as head coach. So how many rings?

Roster adjustment isn't Nurse's biggest issue if at all. It's Masai's. Giving away picks for Thad Young and Jak hurts Raptors in a long run since the team always has hard time signing good players from free agency and has to rely on draft picks.

He though has a bad habit of overusing his starters and his Raptors often lost games due to 2nd half crash. It's understandable that why he didn't use his bench players, but we all thought he was flexible enough to utilize what he had.

I offer no commentary on Nurse.

It's funny that so many coaches that win coach of the year end up getting fired a mere few years later. It's almost as if they never deserved the award or the GMs in the front offices refuse to take accountability for their poor roster constrution so they fire the coach. Maybe some combination of the two in certain instances.

CotY is a regular season award, and coaches usually get fired based on what happens in the post season. A lot of good regular season teams just arent built to be competitive in the playoffs. Youre right ofc that firing a coach is usually about scapegoating, since the roster matters far, far more than the head coach. But obviously any GM is gonna fire a coach before he fires himself.

The raptors got ridden of powell and some guys that used to be good like ibaka and gasol. Ofc that affected their standings in an awful way lol.

I don't think he'd be better for Dallas, they just went to the WCF last season. Coaching is not the issue there. It's more average production out of multiple long term contracts.

Only two, i believe. Udoka didn't win a ring last year.

I meant Lue being fired by the Cavs. Maybe saying 3 of the last 5 franchises to win a championship have fired their coach is a better way to put it.

A redditor compares Nick Nurse to Jose Mourinho; A great defensive coach who is very successful when the roster completely buy into. But his plan exhausts the hell out of players physically and mentally that the team will eventually quits on him within 3-4 years.
