View Full Version : The Lakers 2020 title run. Good, or nah?

Do repeated strong post season performances by Butler and the Heat enhance people's view of the quality of the Lakers 2020 championship?

At the time, many people were discrediting lebron for needing 6 games to beat them.

Heat and Buter are payoff animas.

Not just since 2020 do they ony get taken out by the big dogs, but they have great scaps on the way and are on their way to adding another right now.

2020: oss to akers, eventua champs.
2021: oss to bucks, eventua champs.
2022: oss to cetics, finaists, shot away from finas.
2023: smeing another ECF right now.

What's wrong with your L key?

Otherwise I entirely agree.

For sure, he made that team a legit title contender than when he was with the sixers. But you can't avoid people who are still sour over the 2020 disney bubble.

I haven't really seen much of a compelling argument as to why the bubble ring sucked. Fact of the matter is The Lakers beat the two-time MVP Denver, Harden/Westbrook Rockets, top 75 of all-time Dame's Blazers and a Heat team that has now made multiple runs.

Raptors and Bucks titles were won due to injuries, Warriors are a dynasty so you could make the case the bubble ring was the best championship of the last 5 years.

Biggest asterisk in the history of the sport. But you already knew that.

A strong argument could be made that the opposite is true IMO. It was the most level-playing-field, pure basketball playoffs ever.

No crowds. No home court advantages. No travel. No injuries. Just basketball.

And they beat some all-time players, who will inevitably be 1st ballot HoFers, in the run too.

Naw, Kawhi was only one who beat Warriors with KD and was up on the so called greatest top 3 team all time in game 1 without HCA by 20+ before the injury.

It's always been a great ring...consider that the Lakers/Lebron not only dealt with Kobe's death/covid shutting down the world in 2020...the Lakers/Lebron also lost their homecourt advantage.

It was a massive ring that overcame unprecedented obstacles, but the Lebron haters just want to downplay it every chance they get. If anyone else won the bubble ring besides Lebron, then the Lebron haters would talk favorably about it.

If the Clippers beat the Lakers in the bubble and Kawhi won his 3rd FMVP they'd be hyping the shit out of it :lol

They got 5 months of rest and played injured teams in the POs. It's a ring but an asterisk one like we've always said. We had a thread on this before the bubble saying it would be an asterisk no matter who won it.

Everyone got 5 months of rest and played injured teams in the playoffs...Lakers still came out on top. If it was so easy, why did Kawhi/PG and the Clips blow a 3-1 lead? Why did Giannis get shut down?

By the way, what players were injured against the Lakers? I seem to recall Lillard, Harden, Jokic/Murray, Jimmy B all healthy and playing...

Weak.

The 2020 NBA Playoffs was like playing in a scrimmage game during practice. No fans means no pressure. Some players thrive under that environment.

Some crumble under the spotlight of thousands of fans in an arena, under the heckling of the front row, and playing games in a different state and arena all builds into that pressure.

LeBron doesn’t do well under actual pressure. If anything the bubble was the best thing that could ever happen for him.

It was a weak run but it has nothing to do with Covid or the bubble or whatever because all teams went played under the same conditions. Maybe an older team like the Lakers benefited more from the extended break but whatever and that wouldn't be a very good reason to penalize them. It was a weak run because they didn't face a single team that was top 6 in SRS or top 10 in DRtg and the opponents had lots of injuries. Lillard was injured for Portland in Round 1 and then Bam/Dragic injured for Miami in the Finals.

Lillard had a hand & knee injury in the 1st round, Nurkic was out for 15 months before returning in the bubble

Westbrook had a quad injury and didn't return before the end of the 1st round, also had COVID, wasn't healthy before mid-way next season, Danuel House got suspended for banging a worker or w.e in the bubble

Bam & Dragic both got injured in the Finals

Oh damn I totally didn't even recall Westbrook's injury. He averaged 27/8/7 on 53.6 %TS in the regular season then got injured and came back in Game 5 of Round 1 and proceeded to average 18/7/5 on 46.4 %TS in the playoffs. He was a shell of his regular season self.

Wow, mentioning Danuel House and Nurkic...man you must not count any championship ring if THESE are the injuries you are talking about.

Lilliard played in 4 out of the 5 playoff games, Westbrook played 3 playoff games before the Lakers series and then all the games in the Lakers series. Bam played 4 out of 6 games in the finals. I'll give you Dragic getting hurt...but you really talking about Goran Dragic? The Heat were a DEEP team anyways, not top heavy.

And you are supposed to be a Lakers fan? Man the 2020 ring with Lebron hoisting the FMVP after Kobe's death must have had you tilted for months.

The Heat injuries were significant and it still took the Lakers 6 games. I don't see how you can dismiss that. Agreed on everything else.
