View Full Version : What's up with the free throws?

Yes, the Lakers do have some size. But the free throw trends are not even believable. I'm watching this game like it's a Jake Paul match-up. Come on, you believe this is 100 percent legitimate?

Think about this way. There’s a lot of 50-50 calls. They only seem to blow it one way though, but since they’re arbitrary you won’t notice. Warriors went on a run and then the non stop whistle kept slowing them down.

The problem is I can only show one way cuz they don't call it the other way. I've never seen a team with this much free-throw disparity.

You do understand LA is rank #1 in free throw attempts and GS is last in the league in that category? LA is bigger and like to work in the paint where as GS shoot threes 24/7? Also LA has AD in the paint, he been beasting with altering, deflections, blocking shots, you would think GS prefer to shoot more outside shots then run i to AD.

I never said LA doesn’t deserve any free throws. But the amount they are getting is exaggerated. Even Shaq might not get as many as this.

In game 2, you didn't have that lopsided free throw disparity. It's no surprise that there was a different outcome. The whistle controls the game.

Curry gets chased and grabbed all game long. They could give him an extra 26 free throws if they wanted to.

Lakers were #1 in FTA while also fouling the least this season, and they were one of the best teams at scoring in the paint as well since they don't shoot that many 3s.
On the other side you have a GS team that fouls a lot (3rd most in the RS) and who's also the 2nd worst team in the league in FT attempts per game while leading the league in 3-Point attempts.
So you factor all that in and it's pretty obvious why there's a massive disparity in their FTAs.

Yep. Mostly because Lakers didn't attack the rim like they did in games 1 and 3.

It's WWE.
Lakers have a 83-39 free throw disparity. The only reason to watch is to make money since it's so predictable.

explain how jordan, as a lost a step or two midrange jump shooter, avg more fta in the 96 and 98 finals than any other. coincidentally, he shot the worst from the field in those two finals than any other. how convenient.

For people saying the warriors were last in FTAs and the Lakers were 1st....
The Lakers averaged 26 free throws per game to get that rank. The warriors averaged 20 free throws per game to get their rank.
So that means on average they were 6 free throws apart. How do you account for a 29-6 and 37-17 disparity then?
The differential is shockingly disproportionate.

No it's not. The Warriors are bad at defending without fouling. We have an 82 game sample size to prove that. They're also a jump shooting team and aren't going to get fouled as much while in the act of shooting. That's why during the season they're one of the worst teams if not worse at drawing fouls.
The Lakers on the other hand are good at defending without fouling and good at drawing fouls. It's the polar opposite of the Warriors. That's why the free throws look disproportionate. However, if you know the regular season stats of both teams, it makes perfect sense.

The 82 game sample size shows an average differential of 26-20 in the Lakers favor.
That's what the full sample size shows.
So being out free throwed by 23 and 20? I'm not a mathematician but the difference between 20+ and 6 is a lot. Feel free to correct me on that.
Before the 4th quarter the FT disparity was 33-8 last night. And there were a ton of 50/50 calls where AD literally ran guys over and got free throws for it.
It's no secret the NBA uses lopsided reffing to get desired outcomes. People have literally gone to prison over it.

How are they supposed to guard AD without fouling? Who can physically match up with him if he's in his spots? Meanwhile Warriors star power is on the perimeter. They always get less fouls in the playoffs than the regular season because perimeter ticky tack fouls are the ones that disappear in the playoffs. So it's a combination of style of play and the matchup.

even if they did have someone physically capable and skilled enough, AD would get his fouls. he's been getting an insane amount of FTAs for a while now. it doesn't even matter how legal the defense is, that shit is as guaranteed as the lights being turned on. it's part of the NBA now for players like Gianna, Embitch, and Alternate Days.
yeah they need to give AD more freethrows

Lakers are last at drives to the rim.
Walk on Water
05-07-2023, 03:37 PM
Hawks were driving 37 times per game. Lakers last in playoffs at 25 drives.
Also, no flagrant when Shroder grabbed Moody’s knee but Moody gets a flagrant with Davis?
Warriors drive to basket more than Lakers.
Oh and you don’t think it’s strange the Warriors got 10 free throws in garbage time and Lakers 0? 37-8 was the true number but they gave the Warriors 10 more free throws to pad the stats.

Eddie Griffin complained about it. Even Lakers fans don't like this. Even on the ABC News, they talked about it. Ben Maller on Fox Sports said this is rigged. Come on, man it's Hollywood. You're intelligent. You're lying to yourself though, bro. You really are. These simple explanations you and Lakers fans give are silly and are not honest.

Eddie Griffin is a comedian.
Steve Kerr doesn't have a problem with it. Warriors players aren't crying about it. Maybe it's just that the Lakers have been the better team so far?

You and I BOTH know that the Warriors wanted to say something but couldn't. That would get them in trouble. You do realize the NBA is a business/right? It's partially Holywood/WWE and they will effect things that help them make money.

He's not the one doing it. Not only are the refs helping him, but helping every player on his team! Even Shroder gets more respect from the refs than Steph Curry.
Please explain why Moody's foul on AD is a flagrant, but Shroeder's knee grab of Draymond is not.

It's definitely rigged. The coach was saying how, "if we can handle business at home, we've got this". How could he possibly know that unless he knows something we don't. You can also tell the Lakers players are trying to win the games just so Bron can advance. It doesn't add up.
