Mark Jackson has already issued an apology for totally leaving Jokic off.

Made an honest mistake with my MVP votes. My apologies to the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic. He’s not only a legitimate MVP candidate who deserved my vote, but he is truly one of the all time greats!
Again my apologies

It’s possible he forgot him I suppose but it smells a lot like when people tried to rig it in votes expected to be close in the past. In 90 Barkley got the most first place votes but some west coast guys left him totally off their ballot so Magic would win. Several left Jordan off as well I believe. And in 05 it’s alleged(but unproven) several voters from Canada left Shaq off to make sure Nash won.

This one ended up not being that close but it was expected to be.

You buy anyone just forgetting Jokic existed when their job is to call nba games?

His full statement from an interview after this ballot came out

Embiid
Giannis
Tatum
SGA
Mitchell

Mistake. One thing I live by, you make a mistake, you own it. I'm not a guy that does it for clicks or to be trending. Absolute mistake made by me. I am thinking, how did I make that mistake? You can tell, I put one center, two forwards and two guards, so I wasn't even thinking. I apologize to the Denver Nuggets, I apologize to Nikola Jokić, who is not only in the MVP discussion and deserved to be on my ballot, but he's one of the greatest players in the history of this game. He's a top-10 center of all time.

"So, I own it. If you want to take away my vote or whatever, you're more than welcome. I made a mistake. I would have still voted for Joel Embiid the MVP, but with Giannis and Joker second and third. They deserve that, incredible year by him, he continues to make history. I own the mistake and I apologize."

Seems he filled it out like an all nba team by “accident”.

I knew a preacher back in the day who would go shopping and poke holes in bags of gardening supplies and ask for half off the bag having not spilled a single grain of fertilizer or grass seed.

It’s tight like that.

Would be almost impossible to convince me it was an accident. Definitely on purpose to ensure Joel won.

He wasn’t hurting. He was a contractor as well and made quite a bit underpaying my crackhead ass stepfather for master level work at day laborer rates. Did no work at all. Read comic books at job sites while everyone worked. I stole a few. I just remembered that. He knew I was taking them and didn’t complain so maybe it was more unannounced borrowing.

If he did an all nba team ballot I’d like to see that too. If it’s an exact copy I might accept a mistake was made.

Reason #999 to not care about awards as such.

lol@at the "own it" shtick though. You ****ed up. What's done is done. Don't dramatize it and make it worse for yourself.

My gut says he did the ballot like a team positional thing on purpose as cover for this exact scenario.

That said it’s not impossible it was a legitimate mistake. Ultimately it’s not a big enough deal anyway to bury a guy over what is at least possibly an honest mistake, even if my instinct tells me it wasnt.

Maybe, but given the past you reference and this year being a year in which there was a real narrative to not have Jokic get it 3 in a row. It is hard for me to believe he mistook a MVP ballot for all-nba...and ended up with that order.

He had Donovan Mitchell on his All-NBA third team apparently.

Go back to 2006 and look how many people left Kobe completely off the ballot, or go back to 1990 and look at how Barkley finished 2nd in MVP voting despite getting by far the most 1st place votes (11 more than Magic, loses by a SLIM margin).

Mark Jackson did what he had to do. Some of these media members I'm 100% sure are paid off by teams/players to vote a certain way.

Ouch, thats pretty incriminating tbh :lol

Had Jaylen Brown on first team NBA, but swapped in SGA on the MVP ballot, clearly because hes considering guys who carried the team and/or were its best player for the MVP award.

So he knew it was the MVP ballot, and left off Jokic

And then lied about it and bungled the lie

Remember when Maria Taylor forgot Anthony Davis on all nba and set females in sports media back 5 years?

19 people voted for Jokic as a forward on all nba. I can’t imagine why….

Apparently Mark Jackson left Jokic off his ballot completely.

This only further reinforces my suspicions about Mark Jackson, and why I have such a tremendously low opinion of him as a person. … and as a “coach”. Ryan was right all along about him.

Mark has that narcissist-fake-preacher gene, that “impregnate the fatherless girl in the choir, then use collection plate funds to buy her an abortion” type sh!t going on.

On top of it all, he just doesn’t have a truth telling style or personality. He utilizes repetition and volume and persistence rather than sound judgement or reasoning.

Mark’s a dishonest, disingenuous, phony, with some sort of “repressed for the sake of professionalism, but not for its own sake” racial hatred and a slight hint of some form of mental illness that allows distorted morality behind the facade of spiritual enlightenment and a cult-ish “anointed priestly class” bullshiz.

Never liked him as a coach, or announcer. And I don’t believe him for a second that this was an honest mistake or forgetfulness. Save that BS for the tourists, they might believe you, you crab lyin a$$ MF. You’re just pretending to play clean up on the mess you yourself made.

Nah I dont think this was Mark having some racial agenda, I think he just wanted to see Joel get some recognition and tried to stack the deck in a very ham handed way. I think Mark’s a good dude, just a bit eccentric in his way.

Is Mark suffering from dementia or were there ulterior motives in leaving Jokic out??

I'm not defending Mark Jackson, because leaving Jokic off was completely asinine, but I didn't gather from what he said that he thought he was filling out an all NBA team ballot when he submitted his MVP ballot. It appears that he knew clearly that he was completing an MVP ballot. He said that he was completing it by positions the way one would do an all NBA team, not by rankings. Again, not that that was okay or good, but that's what he said he was doing.
