Well, in FAIRNESS… the award basically goes to the guy who had the best season, not necessarily the guy who is overall most valuable in the big picture.

Embiid had a case for having the best season. Joker actually played passive intentionally in a number of games to get Murray and Porter back into a groove. It was close enough I can accept the justification that the media broke a coin flip tie by going with the new narrative.

That said, we all know who the best and actually most valuable player is.
