Being a head coach in the NBA sounds ****ing brutal lol. You can win the championship, coach of the year, and/or lead your team to a deep playoff run AND still get fired the year after even if your team slightly underperforms.

What the fck does an NBA coach have to do to keep his job? Even winning a championship won't save you. The turnover among coaches over the last couple of years has been absolutely ridiculous. There must have been 25 firings over the last 3 years.

The only safe ones are Erik Spoelstra, Greg Popovich, and Steve Kerr.

umm, monty williams was hot garbage. did you not see the atrocious rebounding, defense, and offense? like everything basketball releated...the team sucked at. and i know everyone not name booker or kd are garbage, but even bad players can be coached into playing decent defense or giving some effort on the boards or even basic offensive elements like moving the ball. instead monty taught them to spam ISO moves.

i agree with the sentiment for nick nurse and bud though.

KD becomes first NBA “star” to get two coaches fired in one season

How he and Kylie are better off in PHX and DallAss than what could have been in Brooklyn Nets is anyone’s guess. But it’s hilarious that their season went the way it did.

An organization can do all of that to rather successful coaches. Players can find out during the middle of a game or while on vacation that they have already been traded away via twitter, and all of that is fine and "just business". But people get upset when a player isn't "loyal" to the organization. :facepalm

This must mean they didn’t get any generous offers for Ayton, from Chicagi, Dallas, and others. Smart of those squads to not value Ayton highly.

With Monty gone, Ayton is probably very happy and motivated.

Yeah Monty the reason why your star player scored 13 pts in a close out game at home….

bucks are looking at Monty ... but I prefer Nurse over him....

Bucks need a play caller that can change on the fly.

I see coach Bud land in Toronto

Probably unfair to Monty. His team choked last year and then this year both Paul and Ayton go down in a tough series in which they were already top heavy...and he has to rely on CP3 and Durant...two guys that haven't led teams to the top even when they were in their primes and better.

Not saying he was perfect, but asking a lot from him.

I don't think this is anything that Monty Williams necessarily did. Whenever a new owner gets there, sometimes he just wants to make changes so that he has his own imprint on the team going forward. When you buy a house you want to repaint the walls, redo the floors, change the plants outside. It's not that what was there before was wrong, but those details may not be what you prefer.

Similarly when a new owner, CEO or president is hired, they just want their own people in place.

As a Suns fan, I wanted him gone after last season. He's a great dude and amazing regular season coach, maybe the best in the league. But he's a terrible playoffs coach. Makes 0 adjustments, plays random lineups that makes no sense, has obvious favorites who he gives playing time to who don't deserve it over other guys, and almost NEVER calls timeouts to stop other team's momentum when they're going on a run(until it's too late and the damage has been done).

I mean the guy literally let Denver go on over a 20-0 run before finally using his first timeout. That is an unforgivable offense. A good coach calls timeout and makes adjustments after an 8-0 run. But this guy let it climb to 12-0... then 15-0.... then 18-0... and STILL wasn't calling one, as I was getting more furious at him by the second. Not to mention when they went on that run he had 4 random ass bench players in the game at the same time who aren't used to playing together at all and clearly weren't hitting their shots, leading to Booker getting triple teamed every time he touched the ball. It was almost like watching the Dallas game last year. He stuck to a similar game plan that whole series and Dallas adjusted and Monty made no attempt to counter-adjust, then other team goes on a massive run and Monty refuses to call a timeout until the game is out of reach.

It's like his whole game plan was for everyone on the team to stand around and watch KD and Booker play iso ball again, when Denver had clearly adjusted their defense and was doing a great job watching for it and getting out front compared to previous games. He should have gotten other guys more involved in the offensive gameplan instead of just having them stand in the corner to wait and attempt 3's.

Suns play at their best when there's actual playmaking and other guys are penetrating and getting high percentage looks, THEN kicking it out to the 3pt line once in a while to keeping defenses guessing. This iso ball shit eventually got countered, just like it did last season. I wasn't surprised at all. Besides, Monty seemingly has 0 awareness when a guy on the team is ice cold or red hot. He will let guys who are ice cold barely hitting the rim continue launching shots and leave them in the game, yet when guys are on fire hitting everything he takes them out and ices them. It happens a lot.

There's just been a lot of issues I've had with his coaching for a while now, this is nothing new. Sure it didn't help having over $60 million of contracts wasting away on the sideline. But CP3 is old and injury prone, it's to be expected... and not like Monty gets the most out of Ayton anyways. It is what it is. Time to give someone else a try and shake up the supporting cast too.

people actually think he was a good coach? lol. during the regular season...sure. during the playoffs, he showed he was horrible. cant make adjustments, doesn't know how to react to playoff defenses, couldn't get the team to buy into his philosophy...tell me how running an AAU offense in the NBA PLAYOFFS is a sign of a good coach? and towards the end, he really lost the team. i mentioned during game 4 against the clippers series that i was sitting a couple rows behind the suns bench and i saw booker ignore monty during the game when he was telling him what to do. ayton and monty did not like each other either.
