Reports say he wants a “Competitive roster and the basketball freedom to be himself”. Whatever that means.

He wants a great supporting cast and to be the man on offense. Sorry buddy, that ship already sailed.

I think even Harden knows that he's not going to be the best player on a Championship team but that's not the same thing as having the ball in your hands. Along with Doc's firing this is about getting Philly to hire D'Antoni. They already have Morey running the team, to me the next step is obvious. To be fair with D'Antoni, an unleashed Maxey flourishes. Just don't expect things to improve much in the playoffs.

Good for him. He listened to the fans that said if he teamed up with other great players that he'd win a championship. Turns out it's not quite that easy.

He tried sacrificing money and his stats to win a championship, it didn't work so now he just wants to enjoy the rest of his career. I don't blame him at all.

It didnt work because of HIM.

He gave no effort when it counted, as always.

He wants to literally just get paid to go out and play pick up ball without worrying about winning or losing.

Every single owner, EVERY OWNER, should have their hand hovering over the ‘fire’ button for the moment their GM says he wants to sign this guy. This is a litmus test. Does your GM deserve his job? If he wants to sign Harden, the answer is emphatically NO.

^ And I mean for ANY money.

Anyone who wants Harden on their team at any price, has a low basketball IQ.

Period, no qualifications.

Well what does it matter why it didn't work? He tried it so now just time for him to enjoy the rest of his career and not worry about rings.

What's wrong with just playing basketball for millions of dollars? If every good player could win championships they wouldn't be special. It used to be ok for a good player to not win championships. Now these days if you don't win a championship people think you're a bum.

Doesn’t matter if he’s your first option, second option, or even going all the way back to his OKC days as third option, Harden is guaranteed to let you down in the playoffs and go missing when your team needs him most. I would be very wary of signing him.

Theres nothing wrong with it if youre the one getting paid :lol

The question is what team/fan base is pathetic enough to want a guy who is open about not even caring about winning?

Just because he wants to get paid to play pick up ball doesnt mean he’s entitled to it.

Most on the people on the team payroll are there to get paid. They’re all at work. Long as you play hard and put in the work teams aren’t probably that worried about your internal motivations. Most of the league is there for a check. So are the gms. The owners probably understand it more than the little people.

I think he absolutely cares about winning. Why would he forego more money last season if he didn't care about winning? Right now though he probably just wants to enjoy the game again, and I get that. That's what I get from his statement about going to a team that allows him to be himself.

He did everything that was asked of him, he sacrificed his role, sacrificed money. He probably thought in the eyes of the fans, he would get credit for doing the things to win. It turns out fans don't care about what you sacrifice, they only care about the result. He's still being called a bum even though he did exactly what fans want star players to do.

Fans really undersell how hard it is to win a championship. Since that championship result is really hard to achieve and not completely in his control, he figures he needs to go back to just enjoying the game. There are always teams that will take on a guy that can still perform well offensively. It just comes down to his market value.

The man won the Sixers two games on his own against Boston. The MVP won 0 games for them against Boston. He took less money too and he did make an effort.

I don’t understand Sixers fans blaming him. Harris and Embiid are the two biggest fails on the team. Harden and Maxey still showed up and showed effort. Tucker fulfilled his role too.

Without Harden they get swept by Boston and embarrassed even more

Harris is absolutely a joke for a max contract. Embiid didnt have any fire or passion or even presence in the fourth quarter against Boston.

Harden had two magnificent games against Boston, arguably the two best playoff games of his career, but he was legitimately atrocious every other game. I agree Embiid should get the bulk of the blame since he played terribly too, but Harden was legit horrible in 4 of the games this series, including Game 7.

Iverson who shot 40 % from the field is a better player and MVP than Embiid

He got them a game against the 2001 LA Lakers

Embiid has achieved nothing Â… heÂ’s an awkward 7 footer actling like a clown on the court

Embiid is the leader and MVP. The offense is meant to go thru him. Old man Horford shut him down.

Harden is basking too much in Game 1 of the Eastern Conf Finals when without Embiid, he led the 6ers to a victory over the Celtics with 45 points.

Maybe in his mind he's capable of beating the best teams with him leading the way. Then with Embiid, they lost.

I attribute that win to Ewing Theory- the idea that when you best player goes down, the team wins more. At least at first. No one knows why- but one theory is the other team game-planned for one scenario and are unprepared for the new configuration.

Harden isn't old at 33, but he plays a game dependent on speed since it's all ISO. He can't elevate over someone like Durant. He's not the shooter Curry is. He can't bully his way to the hoop like LeBron. He's going to have issues as the primary offensive option.

My guess is he goes to some desperate low-tier team, barely makes the playoffs, gets eliminated and just enjoys the big paychecks and ego gratification of running the offense.

I feel weird defending Harden because I mostly agree that he's been an overrated star player.

But I don't blame him for wanting to find his own team at this point. I think after Brooklyn and Philadelphia he realized the grass isn't greener and he should've just appreciated what he had before.
