It doesn't seem like many players really over achieve when he's there.

Offensively Pierce was just a scorer. Doc for him to be more of a passer and this better able to deal with double-teams, which was important when the team got KG and Ray Allen.

Big Baby hd his best years with Doc, not that that’s saying a whole lot.

It’s kind of a silly question tho, most teams he took over had stars already in their primes. Theres not a lot for a coach to improve at that point. Basketball is a player’s sport, coaching adjustments can make small differences in a playoff game here or there, but any coach’s big picture track record is mostly a reflection of the talent on their rosters. Popovich is a HOF legend with Tim/Manu/Tony and a lottery bum without them. Etc.

Wouldn’t say he’s the reason for it but almost all of the real Tmac was under Rivers.

Coaching in general is overrated at this level.

If we want to just point out a significant player who had a rise under Doc, I suppose the best example would be Rondo? He was getting best pg in the league talks once upon a time. Not bad for a 21st pick.

T-Mac, Rondo, Pierce, Blake & Embiid all had their best seasons under him and most of those teams performed really well offensively.

coaching a player , and managing a team in a game is most certainly different.

I think coaching staffs affect players more so than a head coach.

But under Rivers , he has probably improved a lot of role players , to play to their strengths.
Elite players have the complete package ... coach Bud always said about Giannis - it is always amazing to watch him.
