Part of why Butler should be an MVP is I think he spends the regular getting his undrafted and low level guys reps and develop's until the playoffs come along. Jimmy is basically asst.player coach at this point

He's always been a very efficient scorer and great at drawing fouls, but he was never asked to carry as high of an usage despite his skillset. Once Dragic got injured in the 2020 Finals it unleashed him out of necessity, and they haven't looked back.

What you see now is a culmination of hard work put in the gym by Butler when no one is around. It’s surprising to some but not to Jimmy or those around him.
