View Full Version : Jokic just beat Lebron and AD with no all-star help

Lebron and AD are members of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team. Nikola Jokic, who Mark Jackson felt was undeserving of a single MVP vote just beat them without a single all-star teammate. Murray's never been an all-star, never been All-NBA and yet, 53-win team just swept the Lakers.

:facepalm

Its a great narrative but his teammate outplayed both stars from LA and also outplayed Jokic himself. Who else with "no help" has had the fortune of that?

This isn't '03 Duncan where he was quite literally the best player by a significant margin ever series of the NBA playoffs. Leading the team in points rebounds assists every single series, at times by double the amount of the next guy.

Murray is capable of playing like 01 Kobe vs the Kings. He has shown that often in his playoff career. Guys with "no all star help" don't get that

Lebron is 38 and AD is a fraud.

I would absolutely take Murray for a team next year than AD.

MJ outplayed Magic/Worthy without any all-star teammates, and he also outplayed the dynasty Pistons (favored to 3-peat heading into 1991) without any all-star teammates.

And unlike Jokic, Jordan statistically-dominated his sidekick

Yeah, resume matters more than how they actually played. Good points by OP.

That's what you guys do with Pippen - 6 chips make Pippen top 30, not his actual performance (prime iggy-caliber).

When did Pippen play as well as Murray? Lebron had sidekicks do that (AD, Wade & Kyrie) but Jordan never had help like that

Murray was great, but its a stretch to say he outplayed Jokic. Worse, it buys into the narrative that individuals win these things. Murray and Jokic work absolutely fantastically on a team that is built to complement them. Jokic had three triple doubles, and was the clear leader of amazing stretches at the start of game one, in the fourth quarter of game three, and in the third quarter of game four. Murray had perhaps even more amazing stretches in the fourth quarter of the second, and the first half of the third. But it's clear - without Jokic, Murray would not have been so amazing, and vice versa.

Murray is a Jimmy Butler type player. He stays under the radar in regular season but turns into a superstars during playoffs.

Stop.

Anyone who knows anything knows Jamal Murray has all star talent.
He was just injured for two years, and had g league confidence cause he’s from a small town in Canada. Hopefully this first ring will catapult him to have the type confidence he deserves given his skill set.

Besides Curry, has there been a better PG in the playoffs in the last decade than Murray?
