If your team wants to turn the page the first thing to do is change the coach. At the same time there are only a few good proven coaches. As long as both these things are simultaneously true this will continue happening.

Management always makes low risk moves/hires so they can absolve themselves of blame if things go South. Happens in lots of industries but is all too common in sports.

Rebuilding teams still do this, it’s just that theres a number of teams right now that feel theyre a couple tweaks away from the finals and dont wanna roll the dice on a coach who has to learn the ropes on the fly.

That said, I dont personally see Doc or Bud as the coaches to get any of these teams over the hump. But they at least fit the template of what many of these teams are looking for right now in terms of experience.
