^Line from the Jordan movie. Saw a clip earlier.
Even then, it wasn’t exactly accurate if you consider that wilt lead the NBA in scoring and assists, and would’ve been a defensive player of the year, had it existed at the time….and probably could have done two of the 3 together on multiple occasions…but you get it. It’s not supposed to be done.
You have…
Wilt
Kareem in his youth
Jordan
Hakeem
David Robinson
And since that….Giannis, Leonard, and….I’m sure some would say Lebron and Kobe.
If a DPOY level defender can score 30 a game? Especially if they can do it at the same time? Can’t ask any more. We do…because we can’t be pleased…but it’s all you can realistically ask.
Seems we are pretty comfortable with super offensive players who conserve energy on the other end. Probably because it’s the norm. And most of you would rather have the offense than defense obviously.
Im not sure who is holding that kinda player down going forward that I’ve not already mentioned.
Tatum? Anyone see Tatum developing that much as a defender? He plays defense but that’s a stretch.
Any of the young up and comers looking like that level of 2 way potential in your eyes?
I feel like coaches aren’t that worried about it since they push these offenses that ride a ball handler to death.
If you’re gonna have the load prime Harden or current Luka do it’s hard to ask for you to also have that much energy on D.
They’re calling Wemby KD+Gobert so maybe he’s next in line but that’s a lot to expect.
