This is one of the most beautiful birds on the planet. There's a reason Edgar Allen Poe was fascinated with this bird. And they're super smart too.

I'm a heron person myself!

Saw a https://ebird.org/species/chirav driving up from TX-->Colorado. Nuts bird. Birds are OP. People donut understand the intelligence of animals. They don't think that these things are living every day LIFE OR DEATH. It does make you wonder what they are thinking about when they just perch, though.

I'm crazy cuz I talk to birds, but for real they will let you approach, sometimes move closer, **** their head, they are genuinely interested in people, especially when they are like who is this clown making weird noises at me?! It'd be diff if I talked to birds for no reaction, but they definitely do react. It's pretty fascinating.

yo peep this, a 'non violent' raven v heron video. Raven trolling. I wonder if he knew that one spear = deth. That's pretty damn funny that he's going in on his tail feathers, tho.

Edit: undernourished possibly young heron tho, still cray.

Edit2: also, ****ing pelicans, it is hilarious watching them bully fishermen. If you are not about it, a pelican will come and take your fish from you fr fr. You gotta boot em.

For a brief period of time I worked for the Dept of Parks and Wildlife. We were told to "collect" sick birds that couldn't fly and bring the endangered ones to rehabilitation and throw the non threatened in the furnace to stop the spread of avian botulism. We were given safety glasses, and told to be particularly careful of cranes and herons because they go for the eyes. The one time I encountered a sick GB Heron, I just shot it(after looking around to make sure I was alone). I wasn't risking my vision playing around with that thing.

ravens are carcass eaters in a small body vs eagles and hawks.

I have them fly around my place all the time.
NAtional Geographic had an article on them about 15 years ago.
I have been on the other side of a glass door 2-3 feet away from one.
They do not like people.. and if out in the open they veer away from a human.
they go out to black top roads and sharpen their bills... do not believe they need or care to eat gravel.
They are smart , but can anyone tell me were they nest their young ?

It has always been a mystery to me

I love the color of Balt. Orioles / but my all time favorite birds are cardinals and wood ducks.
