View Full Version : Does downplaying teammates actually elevates the superstar?

I often see people downplaying the role of teammates.

To me every superstar need great teammates to win championships. If they don't, then their opponents are just too weak, whether due to injuries or something else.

Jokic to me right now probably has the GOAT playoff performance. Still, Jamal Murray is performing at close to Jayson Tatum level. And that doesn't diminish Jokic at all.

You have to respect guys who play their role and sacrifice for the bigger picture: the team.

Fans do that. They could be fanboys/girls over a certain player. They do that all the time. It won't stop.

Fans of the team would be different, but they might be rare.

It shouldn't dismiss the performance that Jokic is doing. But playoff Murray is a real thing. Dude is incredible with his shot-making and shot-creating. He could score in the paint, mid-range, and at the 3pt line. Make no mistake, Jokic is the main engine as he does a lot of things, but Murray and Jokic pick and roll is deadly as we have seen. Murray in the regular season wasn't as good as he was getting back into playing at a high level. So, I hope he could get more eyes on him next season and continue to improve. He could get better than what he is rn I think.

No. It's just dumb. Everybody needed help. Everybody needed something that fit there game. It's silly to say otherwise. Larry Bird averaged 22 points during his first playoff run to win a ring. He averaged 15 points in the finals. MJ is probably the only outlier but even than your ignoring defense/rebounding etc. Dirk .. Hakeem .. Duncan maybe. You'd be ignoring alot of stuff and just looking at scoring at that point tho. Superstars need help. Downplaying that is silly.

Murray has been an absolute beast. He's given Jokic the support he's needed. If he keeps doing that than the Nuggets likely win a ring this year .. and if he did that the past 2 seasons who knows. If Murray played in the regular season like he has in the playoffs than the Nuggets win 60+ with ease and catch nobody off guard.

The warriors aren't that potent at all if their core is incomplete.

Nope, it doesn't. Bronie fluffers denigrating LeShrivel's teammates hasn't changed anybody's mind about him yet.

It’s pretty much all people who can’t make a basketball argument do these days. It’s both sides of like 10 arguments. You think of a player who plays with a greater player and the person you see criticize them the most is always going to be the fans of the greater player. Just like the biggest supporters of the people who play with superstars are always that superstars haters. They all do it.

It’s funniest when they get all the way down to role players and just start listing names like the matter. You get shit like people listing Steve Kerr as evidence of a super team or three ball on here, claiming the current Lakers have the most good players ever as if Jermaine O’Neal wasn’t like the 10th best player on the Blazers, or like Hedo and Gerald Wallace couldn’t barely get in games on the kings.

Fans these days seem only willing to make an honest evaluation of players completely disconnected from the career of superstars. You might get an unfiltered set of opinions asking about somebody on the Orlando Magic, but that’s about it. Once you play with a star, you just become a pawn in a game whose players are too dedicated to winning to give you an honest look.
