View Full Version : Jimmy Butler is the ultimate boogeyman for ppgz casuals

Boxscore watchers are in shambles right now not being able to understand how a team whose best player ppg is 20 can lead his team to the finals and possibly even a ring. So they resort to the most simplistic explanation: his teammates must be better than they seem!

They're better because Jimmy makes them better. Nobody sets the tone for his team like he does. We talk about floor and ceiling raisers - Butler is the best in the world at both.

What Jimmy does on the court is hard to perceive for a casual. So many intangibles. He is literally redefining the meaning of most valuable player in front of our eyes. But most people are so hopelessly dependent on the ppg narrative that they will never give him his due. Ironically that contributes to him being so good because it boosts his determination.

Yeah he balled out on both ends in Game 2 but the casuals are out there saying he was "meh" and carried lol. He shut down Murray and made all the right plays for his teammates and hit clutch shots in the 4th when they needed it. So far he has 16 assists to just 2 TOs in this series.

Jimmy's an outlier always has been but context matters and people recognize that he was the third or fourth option for a significant portion of his career.

He’s better than his boxscore but less than what youre making him.

He’s not a top 10 player. The Heat ARE a good all around team. Bam has been great in the playoffs. Love has fit well. Their shooters have had very few off nights. They all play hard.

Jimmy is not creating some miracle to get these wins. He’s playing well and so is his team. Same story with Jokic.

OP has a player fetish and I get that. But lets be real here. He’s acting like the dude is reinventing the basketball out there. Jimmy’s playing GOOD. But youre clearly overselling it OP.

They're 9-9 without him this season, and they underperformed in the regular season in general. Several wins against quality teams. That's solid support for what is supposedly a 1 man team.

They win games for a variety of reasons although Butler deserves a lot of credit. But he's quite clearly a tier or 2 below the likes of Jokic, Durant, lebron, etc.

Butlers cast is probably 4th in the league behind Giannis, Curry, Tatum.

So Butler deserves credit for beating stars who have a better cast

I think Butler was playing like a top 10 player until he rolled his ankle in the playoffs. He was having a crazy run. He still tries hard on defense and good with his playmaking.

But the team itself is really playing crazy well. You gotta give Spo and the players props.

Imo everyone knows jimmy is a winner and has a huge heart. He would be soooo amazing as a second option tho. He’s playing way above his head and good on em. Still will be mildly surprised if heat get 2 games and dumbfounded if they go 7.

Jimmy is a top 10 player and has been for six or seven years. He's a walking 22/6/5 on great efficiency and elite defense and a great floor game on any team he goes to, he can guard multiple positions and score at all three levels. He takes care of the ball, gets to the line and more. He's a leader. He has the game of a dominant player, but he also makes hustle plays and IQ plays so even when he's not shooting great, he's still really good. His run last year was MJ-level, and this year he fell off a bit after hurting his ankle, but remains great.

This Miami team is not great without Herro, or even with him. They've relied on ridiculously hot shooting and jimmy winning them like 4 or 5 unwinnable games between the bucks and the Celtics. Randle was injured and the Knicks wouldn't have won anyway. Boston is just susceptible to implosion for some reason, idk why. once they beat the bucks though, there was a decent chance they could make it this far, because Jimmy was the best player left considering embiid is literally always injured. Jimmy made winners out of every team he went to but those teams undervalued him. If lebron had teamed up with Jimmy instead of AD, I actually think the lakers have at least two chips by now. If Kawhi teamed up with Jimmy instead of PG, I don't think they lose to Denver. Jimmy is a great floor-raiser, ceiling raise, make a mid-level team great, etc. kind of guy whose game is misunderstood and underestimated. Funny enough though, all advanced stats point to him being top 6-10 player the last seven years, and he's showing you that stuff is pretty accurate a lot of the time, lol.

i always focus on jimmy defensively more than offense because Heat Culture is defense and when we play well defensively we win. Jimmy shutting down Jamal Murray and rattling him in game 2 was beautiful

This is the year for butler to get his ring. its the heats year

jokic is young he will have future opportunities, like Dirk had to lose first before winning it. Another 7 foot white passing facilitator.

And I can't get over the fact that the nuggets two best offensive players are so atrocious defensively. Jokic and murray are so blatantly horrific on defense you cant see a team like that winning a championship, especially when they only have one player with finals experience, meanwhile the Heat have 7 players with finals experience and experience matters on this big stage. Butler, lowry, love, robinson, herro, bam, vincent have all been to the finals before and have that moxy and savvy experience.

its simply jimmy and the heats year. Primed and ready for a title

Jimmy isn’t the quality shot creator his cult members want to believe he is.

He’s a very interesting life/career trajectory, and is a very good all around player.
And at least one game per year, he appears to be the best two way player on earth.

But what about the other 360-some days ?

What?

Dirk Nowitzki and Nikola Jokic play similar games. Both are 7 feet tall and prefer to play at the top of the key rather than post-up inside (like traditional 7 footers over history). Both are good long range shooters who are also good passers, play on the perimeter more and just inside the arc rather than down by the basket.

Did you think Jokic compares similarly to Shaq ?? LOL !!

The Miami Heat beat Dirk in the 2006 finals with a very similar Heat team in 2023:

2023 Kyle Lowry = 2006 Gary Payton. Both play like bulls on the defensive end that have fast hands to disrupt offenses with timing and also make key long range shots. In fact, Gary Payton was just interviewed comparing his game to Lowry and Payton used the term we are both "bulls".

2023 Bam Adebayo = 2006 Alonzo Mourning. Very similar centers who play top notch ALL - NBA level defense and can pitch in over 20 points on offense on any given night

2023 Jimmy Butler = 2006 Dwayne Wade . Both players are the main drivers of the team, Both are the rim runners to drive and make plays off it. Both are the best at drawing fouls on their respective teams. Both play excellent defense and can cause havoc on the defensive end

2023 Duncan Robinson = 2006 James Posey . Three point shooters who can at times make plays beyond their shooting. Duncan is able to drive to the hoop like Posey was able to. Both players have savviness

2023 Caleb Martin = 2006 Antoine Walker .. Both are great 3 and D players, Though Walker was listed as a PF he played more like a SF, and the Heat use Caleb at PF when the Heat go small. Both play great defense, Martin was excellent on defense in game 2, though he didnt score much he still made an impact on the game, just like Walker did for us in 2006.

2023 Gabe Vincent/ Tyler Herro = 2006 Jason Williams.. Very similar point guards though Vincent is seriously outplaying the Williams of 2006. Vincent has been fantastic on both ends of the floor. Tyler Herro can also be made to compare to Williams, hope Herro returns soon

2023 Kevin Love = 2006 Udonis Haslem . Love was instrumental in game 2, he had ten rebounds in 22 minutes and solidifying the paint area. Love is a better shooter but both provide the intangibles needed to win a title at the PF position

The Heat had Shaq in 2006 but he lost a couple steps to that point and wasn't the same player he was the year before and the year prior. Limited minutes but still came in handy at times
