View Full Version : Mike Malone said it best. Jokic is pretty much Bird & McHale

Doesn't have McHale's post moves, but his touch is there, IMO he is a better passer than Bird, but both all-time great in that department.

I agree. You could add Dirk as well, but Larry and McHale were both great mid-range shooters themselves. He's like a slower but stronger McHale down low. Doesn't have Kevin's crazy quickness but has 60+ pounds on him. The similarity in footwork, touch, and high release are unmistakable.

Another unmistakable similarity is the ability to keep the ball high. I've spent a lot of time looking at prime Dwight recently and he had a bad habit of bringing the ball down before going back up. McHale and Jokic are some of the best ever at putting the ball back up before the defense can respond.

I really dont see that much McHale.

McHale’s post game was more about length and quickness. Joker’s is more about girth and touch.

If you wanna know who Joker’s scoring repertoire is really reminiscent of?

Zach Randolph.

Yeah, I don't really see much Mchale either other than the amazing touch he has.

Jokic has counter moves on counter moves like McHale does.

I can see Zach Randolph

Yup.

Zach had good footwork, soft hands, rebounded like a beast, and even had a very similar shooting motion to Jokic.

Idk his game is hideous to watch. All I’m seeing is racial player comparisons

Duncan was never exciting either. Jokic at least has quirky and weird passes. But they’re not pretty passes. He has sloppy footwork and body movements. A true clown like joker.

Zach was more direct, for a lack of a better term, in his post ups. He mostly lived by position instead of fakes and counters. Zach's post game reminded me alot of Barkley's. Jokic isn't McHale, but neither Randolph. Somewhere inbetween.

You only like flashy players, but Jokic's footwork is on point. You're just used to the traveling shitshow the NBA has become. "Racial comparisons" is funny aswell when Zach Randolph was one of the names brought up itt.

I think it's hilarious to the point that he's literally the opposite athletically( explosion-wise) of what alot of detractors say is a key ingredient to be dominant nowadays. In fact out of the top 10 players nowadays, the only 'hyper' athlete is Giannis. All it tells me is that guys at least as far back as the 80's and a few select guys from the 70's would be more than fine today if they were trained with modern sensibilities.

There's some of Zach in Jokic's game for sure, when he wants to.

Also Pau Gasol.

Whoever he is, he's the best player in the game. Without question.

Well they were plumbers. They hardly got paid squat, they had to work plumber jobs or at Safeway to support themselves.

They werent full time professional athletes like Lebron and his competition are.

MJ was 0-6 vs Bird & McHale. Plumbers came in the 90's.

Convenient take for you, ONLY the 90s had plumbers, right?

Are you speaking for me? I don’t only like flashy players. But I expect some artistry in a superstars game to make me enticed to like them. I love Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, and used to love Kirk Hinrich. None of these guys have flashy games. I like somebody that can make the game look beautiful, yes. Who can dominate and look entertaining to watch.

You mean young Jordan with trash around him.

And prime LeBron is 5-11 vs old Duncan

If you don't think jokic is impressive to watch you don't like basketball. He's orchestrating genius out there, making perfect reads, and nailing ridiculously tough shots. While boarding like Wilt Chamberlain.

Jimmy Butler actually has an ugly game. He has no jumper outside 17 feet and basically plays bully ball and flops a lot on top of it. Yea he's clutch and has heart, but his game ain't even close to as pretty as Yolk's. I think you're just focusing on their bodies on some homo shit.

Thank you for sharing this!! Nothing builds a team and movement like good passing. The pass between the legs of the Portland player was so sweet! Reminded me of Bird passing between Sikma's legs to Parish.

Not a bad comparison. No surprise its a guy who should be a 3 time MVP.

Better passer than Bird? :whatever:

He dimes way more than Bird. Double digit assists every game. People want to blame the 3pt shooting and spacing of today's game but the Nuggets have been shooting like shit from 3 recently. He makes so many passes to cutters... constantly finding guys like AG under the rim. A 7 foot Larry Bird is better than a 6'9 Larry Bird. He's taller, heavier and arguably more skilled. And somehow his endurance is phenomenal.

Bird, particularly when he was young, had a way quicker first step and lateral movement. He was also a better shooter.

As a passer they’re similar styles but yea the 7 foot aspect is crazy. I think Bird probably could have gotten more assists if he wanted but he was more of a takeover as a scorer mindset at his peak.

He would get shut down in the 90's/early 2000's.
