27 years old Larry Bird told Boston reporter about Rookie MJ after their first meeting, "That guy is gonna be the greatest player ever, you watch."

MJ 'only' scored 27 on 12-24 shooting that game. Boston won by 20 points.

Larry didn't seem like the type to be in awe of another player, let alone a rookie who only played 10 NBA games. Lets remember this is a young, trash talking MVP Larry Bird. Not the older, more diplomatic version of himself.

That is some GOAT vision.

Is it Safe to say Bird owned Jordan?

I mean just look at the '87-'88 stretch where they matched up 10 times in the season and once in the playoffs. Both were healthy and MVP caliber players so no excuses for either player...

11/14/86
Bird - 37/10/5 (13/25 shooting)
Jordan - 48/5/1 (17/33 shooting)

Celtics win, I'd say it's a wash though.

Jordan - 34/8/3 (41.9%)

Celtics win, Bird easily wins the matchup. Highlights of the game here:

Bird's record in this stretch? 9-1 while outperforming him in nearly every game. What makes this worse? Bird made Jordan look like a child when Jordan tried to guard him. Meanwhile the possessions I saw Bird guard Jordan, he defended him quite well (definitly wasn't gambling for steals to leave him open in the post).

Moreover, Jordan is 0-6 in the playoffs including this disaster in '87: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RVMJSCTj5Y (Jordan makes 0 shots in the 4th quarter...Bulls had a 7 point lead with 11 minutes left...but Bird showed up when it mattered while Jordan was no where to be seen)

Kind of makes Jordan's '88 MVP come off as even more of a joke, no? Not that I really care but all you really hear about is the 63 points.

What the hell does all that have to do with Larry telling a reporter that he thought MJ would go on to become GOAT, which he obviously clearly nailed.

That's like Tim Duncan calling LeBron the GOAT and the LeBron haters mentioning TimmyD owns him in the Finals, both are two different things, numbnuts

He was referring to a newborn child in Akron, Ohio.

BLAHBLAHBLAH

The Celtics were a title contender when MJ came into the league. They won rings in '81/'84/'86. Bird said at the time that his '86 team was the best team in NBA history. Of course the Celtics dominated the Bulls.

Do you think this is some kind of insightful analysis?

Heard he threw the ball away from Jordan when he was practicing with the team or something along those lines

And he was almost right. Jordan climbed all the way up to #2 all time behind Kareem. Then Lebron James happened and all of a sudden lbj leap frogged him and Kareem but somehow mj kept his #2 ranking.

Meanwhile, their complete H2H stats (34 games) are:

MJ: 34.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 5.8 apg, 2.6 spg, 1.2 bpg.
Larry: 27.0 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 6.7 apg, 1.4 spg, 0.9 bpg.

MJ clearly has the better stats (not considering also his far superior defence), despite playing for a much worse team.

Hey, shithead, when you are making statements like this: ‘Is it Safe to say Bird owned Jordan’, you have to use all games, and not cherry-pick. Maybe you would like to rephrase that to something more realistic, such as:

Absolutely, not true. Their H2H stats are out there, anyone can find them.

I am bored, so I am only going to cite their H2H from MJ’s rookie year:

Rookie MJ? Maybe.

But Bird made MJ his bitch from '86-'88.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RVMJSCTj5Y

Game 3 of the 1987 first round.

Bird had 32/14/6 and hit for 15 fourth quarter points. A young MJ though struggled with his shooting and would get 30 points on only 9/30 shooting.

Bulls had a 7 point lead with 11 minutes left in the fourth. Celtics however went on a Bird-led run in the fourth and completed the sweep. Jordan shot 0/8 in the fourth but did convert 5 free throws.

:lol:oldlol::lol

Body bagged

I can’t understand you, wait…

H2H: Jordan: 38.1 mpg, Larry: 39.4 mpg :oldlol:

*Brontard ‘logic’ on*

So, you are trying to argue that, although their games were blowouts, Bird instead of resting, preferred to stay in the game and stat-pad?

Gotcha :lol:facepalm

Bird didn't call the shots, K.C did.

Lesson over.

There isn't a dumber sports fan base than the Bronsexuals, they constantly get called out not only here but on social media for how stupid they are. Colin Cowherd, Shannon Sharpe, Nick Wright and Kendrick Perkins are the embodiment of these idiots, and those guys are routinely called out for there idiot takes :lol

Embarrassing myself? You used head to head games from 1992 when Bird had the back of an 80 year old man. :lol

Oh, I am sorry. :(

I truly apologise for this. :(

Do you want me to use rookie Jordan's stats vs peak Bird, instead?

The funny thing is, my post in the 1st page was an obvious copy and paste from another user that posted it here like 10 years ago, I must say, I posted it for shits and giggles but I did not expect so many people to have a meltdown over it. :oldlol:

I had to explain to TheMan it was a copy/paste, he even thought I typed it myself, despite me posting it 1 minute after OP created this thread. MJ stans are not very bright.

It's OK. Let him express himself. This is ish anyway.

Poor guy wouldn't be able to type all this non-sense anywhere else without getting banned.

The OP struck a nerve with you, making a long ass reply that didn't even have anything to do with his point :lol But go ahead and act dumb, you're a master at deflecting

You thought I typed all that in 1 minute. Take the L bro.

That was my first response

Hey clown 1987_Lakers, I never claimed in my first response to you that you wrote that anyways, I called you out on what did all that have to do with Bird calling MJ GOAT from their first meetings? You deflect, that's all you do here...and copy paste like Warriorfan pointed out.

Hey clown TheMan, I'm not the poster who thought high school players can join the NBA. I'm not the poster who said the Pistons won two chips in the 80's when in reality it was one.

Or how about the time you posted an article that "proved" LeBron faked his injury, but the article in fact said the injury was "real"?

The article said that his hand did look swollen, but it didn't impede him from playing, handling the rock and dunking. He never showed any discomfort or in any way looked like he was nursing his hand. What was hilarious and the whole point of why we laughed at LeBron is that he came out on the podium wearing a cast, and claimed that it was broken :lol

From the very same article you posted.

"For now, we seem to know that the injury was real"

What a backfire.

Fultz already explained this. He was talking about LeBron.

Fake news af.

Larry said this in 1984.

He was not referring to rookie MJ.

He was referring to a newborn child in Akron, Ohio.

“That guy is gonna be GOAT.”

Lets get back to Bird vs MJ

Coming from the loser who didn't know about the Bulls/Pistons rivalry. And who doesn't know what an advanced stat is. And who thinks that Tom Brady is the best evidence for Lebron not having the most choke jobs in NBA history. And who didn't know that Sabonis made the all star team.
