View Full Version : Kinda funny Love couldnt crack a backup role on CLE, now starting for a Finalist

Not that Cleveland was wrong for phasing him out. They obviously are in a youth movement and have Mobley and Allen up front. I dont remember who the backup PF is that eventually got Love’s minutes, but it just goes to show how much basketball can be about the right fit in the right place at the right time.
He was the odd man out of the rotation in Cleveland, and they got bounced in the first round. Meanwhile he lands a starting job in Miami and helps them get to the Finals :lol Ofc he’s been a modest factor, but still a net positive. So it’s kind of an amusing irony.
But basketball teams are a puzzle. It’s not about just putting a bunch of players with a 95 rating in video games together and thinking that’s an optimal team. It would be easy to assume Love was done when he couldnt find minutes on a first round exit. Instead, in the right role, he was a starting contributor for an NBA finals team.

Even though love is and was long done for a bigger starting / leading role, you always felt he could still be a nice contributor to some title teams.
Same feeling I have with Tristan Thompson tbh. I bet hes still vauabe.

I ain’t mad at ya Bronny but this is a potential backfire.
Love is a vet who knows how to ball. When he could contribute, it’s a damn shame they put him on bench. Just like he probably was a huge part of the heats only win. After coming off a dnp. W grey hair. Love has his issues, but u want him to at least start the gm out unless the other team is just super small. Also cle didn’t have a big like bam so it’s doubly dum. It kinda goes to the Bron cancer narrative tbh.
Edit: but that trash team post Bron lol I mean…

Kevin Love is like a rorschach test for if you're a dumbass racist or not.
I wanted Mavs to get him, but in reality, any contender should have wanted him. He'd have made a huge difference for Boston as well.
It's just plain ole moronic racism, slow white guy, not seeing his bball iq and intangibles.

Bro he’s got gray hair and hasnt been relevant in years. I dont think anyone doubting him was a race thing.
It’s just funny how he couldnt even get backup minutes on a team that got bounced early but suddenly he’s starting on a team that wins the East.
It’s just irony, it’s not… we dont need to make every topic about race.

It's not racist as in someone hates white people, it's more the racism of ignorant pandering on the behalf of owners and leadership.
Love is probably a bit of an introvert, softer spoken, not into rap and bling. A normal white person in other words. Most of the NBA is not like that, most of the NBA is fake machismo, pink shoes and diamond earrings (looking at Tatum).
Remember Lebron's fit-in not fit-out? Yeah, Love is never going to fit in with a bunch of childish blingers.
Teams then feel, why make the effort to build a culture that has the room for both Jimmy Buckets, Tyler Herro and Kevin Love, when you can just let the kids run the team.
Then you have teams like Spurs, Heat, Nuggets, that build team identities around basketball and discipline, those teams are colorblind, they're based on shared values.
I'm probably ranting nonsense here, but how else do you explain how Love couldn't find a minute with Cavs and now he's an integral part of Heat in the finals?

Cavs were a 4 seed with a crowded front court. Miami was an 8 seed, probably in part because of the big hole they had at power forward.
You take the odd man out of the crowded Cleveland pf rotation and stick him on a team that badly needs one, suddenly it changes Miami’s whole dynamic. He fits perfectly with Bam, he may just not have fit as well with Cleveland’s personnel.
He wasnt lighting the league up with the Cavs even when he was playing. But he was a perfect match in Miami and went from being squeezed out of a team that lost right away to starting on the team that won the Eastern Conf. It’s just ironic, thats all.
Has nothing to do with “bling” :lol

It's not ironic, it's incompetent.
Cavs could have gotten something for Love in a trade.

I’m certain they would have tried before releasing him.

Why didn't Mavs offload Bertans on them then? There must have been plenty of teams who could have made something happen. Incompetent front offices abound.
