I can’t think of anyone else like this, he’s truly a bizarre player.


2020 regular season: 18.5/4.0/4.8 on 55.9 TS%
2020 playoffs: 26.5/4.8/6.6 on 62.6 TS%

2023 regular season: 20.0/4.0/6.2 on 57.1 TS%
2023 playoffs: 26.1/5.7/7.1 on 58.6 TS%

Miami really keyed in on him tho, they actually seemed more interested in stopping him than Jokic at times - or perhaps were resigned to that being at least a more realistic possibility :lol

But Murray’s proven ability to go off in the playoffs definitely impacted Miami’s strategy and it opened up a lot for the Nuggets offense IMO. Gotta give Murray a lot of credit for sacrificing some numbers in that series to get his team over the hump. And like all the Nuggets, he played his ass off regardless of how he was shooting at a given time.

This season he was recovering from an injury so it makes a little sense that his regular season numbers were a bit down. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues.

I watched the Nuggets at times during the regular season and they did seem to be on cruise control somewhat.

After he went bonkers in the first half of game 1, Murray was blitzed by Miami for pretty much the rest of the series.

Not sure what's the criteria for solid is but Brunson turned into a superstar in the playoff.

I think Rondo also turned from solid to elite that one season.

I think that part of it is that Murray specializes in cracking set defenses with decisiveness and great shot-making. This is just flat-out more important in the playoffs compared to the regular season. Defenses tighten up and take away transition opportunities and easy looks. In this way, he reminds me of Chauncey Billups.

There are so many guards in the NBA who are extremely talented, with great athleticism and amazing physical profiles. I feel like Murray is a B+ in all of those areas, but he just has this consistent focus and appropriate confidence that sets him apart. He can do a lot, he knows what he can do, and he does it with full belief that it will work. My favorite guard to watch.
