View Full Version : Swap Jokic and Butler, who wins the finals?
I think Denver is just the much better team here that no matter who you’d put in Butlers situation, no one could beat them with Strus, Vincent, Love as your starters.
Not taking anything away from Jokic who was the best player in the entire playoffs (Murray etc stepped up too), but swap both players (even tho different positions ofc and counting mismatches) and Jimmy wins a chip with that team. Only talking about the finals matchup Denver vs Miami, not the series prior to that.

Miami’s offense would be a bit awkward with Jokic and Bam taking up the same space.
However Denver would get destroyed on the boards.
So I dunno.

Bam can play the Aaron Gordon role better than Aaron Gordon and the Nuggets would lose their great decision making. Murray is an asset and he can score and pass but his decisionmaking is suspect. So I think with that many shooters and Adebayo between the low post and the basket would make the Heat win.

Where does this narrative of Murray being a suspect ecision maker?
His entire playoff career he averages 2.5 turnovers per game. For someone who is asked to handle and playmake as much as he is that number is extremely low. It's one of the great things about him, not a "suspect" thing.

He has a tendency to dribble a lot more than he should and many times he misses the open man in the process. I have a feeling he would be playing quite a bit of hero ball if Jokic wasn't there. But my main pojnt wasn't Muray but Bam + shooters and the Joker's passing. I may be wrong of course but I have a feeling that if Jokic and Butler were swapped Miami wins. Maybe not in 5 games.

Aaron Gordon 3pt % in 20 career post season games: 39%.
Bam Adebayo 3pt % in 23 career post season games: 0%.
So Im not seeing that add up. Also, Bam can finish well at the rim but he cant move around off the ball as well as Gordon.
Note I didnt say Joker and Bam would be BAD, just a bit awkward. I dont think it would be as smooth as Joker and Gordon.

What would happen if you swap Shaq for Reggie Miller in the 2000 Finals?

Gordon can go all game long w/o shooting a single 3 pointer. The majority of his points come very close to the basket off of a pass, mostly from Jokic. Bam is not a worse defender than Gordon and is a better shooter from 9-15 feet and also is a better rebounder who could go after offensive rebounds a lot. On defense, Bam and Jokic could do great they kinda compliment each other.
At any rate, I don't really have a dog in this fight. I think the Heat would win with a swap. I may be wrong. That's all.

What if they were both on the 1990s Utah Jazz, how many wins?

Heat easily. Nuggets are all about Jokic and what he does as a creator and rebounder. Nuggets were famous all season for the way the team cratered when he rested and aButler/Murray duo is a lot more redundant. No Heat player would do as good a job as Murray but we saw them step up in spots. They could hit shots off of his creation and he would set adebayo up for some easy baskets. With Jokic and adebayo on the same side the Nuggets would get destroyed in the glass and Jokic would do whatever he wanted offensively.

There likely isn't a player in the game that you wouldn't improve the team offense by trading him for Jokic. He can fit with anyone and he's a dominant rebounder. Heat would do the trade in an instant. Riley would give Butler a ton of respect and they would retire his jersey the minute he retired but it wouldn't be a hard decision at all.

Jokic massively outplayed Butler H2H in the Finals and that was the main difference in his team winning. Who is the Nuggets center without Yolk? Lol... Bam and Jokic and Love would kill the Nuggets with this swap. They would eat them alive on the boards worse than what happened without it. And Miami has even better shooters. Nuggets shooters were shitting the bed big time. They won with their inside play.
