View Full Version : I don't think Cuban can fix the MAVS

This is the off-season to make nothing but good decisions or die.

If we can keep Christian Wood, resign Kyrie, and grab just one role-player in FA, I think we will be okay, but not quite Championship Level.

Wood
Maxi
Bullock
Kyrie
Luka

Hardaway & Green off the bench + 10th pick in draft.

We need help at PF and C is pretty much the bottomline.

Denver should continue to be dominant in the West... So the idea of Doncic vs Jokic battling it out for the next 3 out of 4 years is something I'd personally like to see, but I have little faith Cuban can get the Mavs fixed.

I mean seriously... how do we fix this team and make Kyrie and Luka work?... or is this team just going to waste away Luka's prime years? (Luka's next 4-5 years will be PRIME Luka)

if we are to move forward without Kyrie... basically Cuban made the worst trade in Mavs history.

The FO is still hellbent on retaining kyrie.

That already tells a lot.

I don't love Kyrie/Luka, but I do think it could work. Wood is not the answer though...I don't see how he fits unless the goal is to sign him to a friendly contract and then trade him later. If you have a team built around Luka/Kyrie...you are going to need tough defensive minded role players that will set good screens, fight on the glass, move without the ball, shoot open 3's...etc. Josh Green fits that nicely. Bullock and Maxi as well. Hardaway really doesn't, but he could be useful off the bench...even in the playoffs.

Kyrie/Luka/Green/Maxi/Bullock/Hardaway...that isn't nothing, but it is missing quite a bit.

Wood, Bertans, Powell...all have little to no value on the team. Sadly, the team above is badly missing a player like DFS...he's exactly the type of guy this team needs outside of a better big.

The pipe dream would somehow to get Brook Lopez, but that is exactly what this team needs. You give the team above Brook Lopez and turn the 10th pick into a solid role player...and you could contend for a title imo. But DFS isn't coming back and I don't see how we'd get Lopez...but that would be the roster to do it.

Kyrie/Luka/DFS/Bullock/Lopez...with Green/Maxi/Hardaway/Hardy off the bench...that would challenge for the title imo.

If Cuban can get Draymond Green, that would be great as they will have a duo of Donkey & Doncic.

I forgot we still have Bertans under contract for awhile... he's good for 3's and rebounds.

We actually need him on the roster because we don't have any height.

We need a couple of more players that are 6'10", can play defense, rebound, and can catch Alley-oops from Kyrie & Luka.

That's kinda what I'm thinking... I don't know how it can be fixed.

Mavs should try to package their picks + Woods/THJ to Minny for Gobert.

If that fails, then go for Vanderbilt/Reeves and trade Kyrie.

Nurkic might also be available if Dame gets traded, though he is injured a lot.

In any case, the 10th pick should make it possible to get rid of THJ, Powell and Bertans shitty contracts for a quality player.

Woods is a good player but doesn't fit Luka-ball.

If I were running the Mavs, I'd look to launch both Kyrie and Luka. You're not winning anything with those two.

The Mav's are truly fvck'ed up.
The need to keep Wood and luka, but build.

They have to tell Luka he has to work with his teammates not stat pad like MJ did in his early days.
(this is super hard for a competitor like Luka the super star... .but it needs to be done. )

His core needs a 15/10 PF , a 5 that can get 15 boards and 10 points from the weak side , a SG that does his best impression of Curry
and a PG that can play D, dime out 12 , and score 15.
And most of all two legit big role players off the bench that can generate 30 points and 18 boards.

Then Cuban can look at the finals.
Buy players has never really worked out , you have to build.

As opposed to all the winning they were doing before Luka joined.

It's not about a supporting cast. Jokic did it with 2nd best player being Jamal Murray. Giannis did it with freaking khris middleton.

Doncic needs to get in shape, play better defense, learn team offense and make his teammates better, and be more mature (stop getting emotional all the time).

In short, he lacks what it takes to be one of the greats. At present. You can keep changing the personnel from Bruson, to Kyrie, to whomever, it won't matter. He's had decent help. Dallas fans can't seem to bring themselves around to recognize the deficiencies in Doncics' game.

His team defense has actually gotten pretty good, similar to Jokic, but he’s never gonna be a great man defender because he cant change his wing span or his foot speed.

The rest is true, and despite all those flaws he HAS nevertheless been a dominant playoff performer and has reached a conference finals with a cast that was certainly solid, but far from ideal.

He needs to improve some things, and the team needs to improve. There is no player that wins a championship with that supporting cast besides Lebron. But Luka does need to work on some of the intangibles, theres no question about that.
