View Full Version : On what team and in which role does Kristaps Porzingis become a champion?

We've seen Kristaps play quite a few seasons with personal success and some team success, but with the Wiz lack of success in a weak East, you have to wonder if KP is actually a winning player and in what role?
He wants to the first option or at least the 1b option, but he is too lacking in rebounding to be that.
It's undeniable that KP is an offensive star and shotblocker, so obviously he could find a role, but where and how?

Third option. The Aaron Gordan role he would or should maybe excel in that

Poor man’s KD with good rim protection. Similar to a current Brook Lopez but younger.
He’s more of a “add this guy to a team with leadership and he can make them really dangerous” player than a guy whose game you build the whole team around.
Put him with Lebron and the sky would be the limit. He’d also fit well with Giannis. And ironically I could see him making sense back in NY with Brunson.

2nd option but 3rd best player. Could be pretty good playing with someone like draymond and and a perimeter star. He's not the 2nd best player on a title team unless that team is loaded and deep.

if Kristaps is the 2nd offensive option, that team wont win.
His stint on the Mavs showed he wasnt cut out for that.

So basically if he had something like the Tobias Harris role when they had Butler on Philly or as Durant role in Phoenix?

Wouldn't be a championship caliber team without adding more, but KP on the Nets in place of Simmons would be a really interesting team imo...and definitely a scary one in the playoffs.

mavs were not good around him and luka and he had injury and chemistry issues. at his current level he can score 23 a game really efficiently and is a good defender not a liability

lakers isnt a bad option ... him and AD in the paint would be a big deterrent on defense for drives, and they are both agile enough for accommodating the opposing teams smaller line ups at the 4 and 5 if they need to defend the perimeter. and not many team can D-up 2 big men that can basically stretch the floor beyond the arc and attack in the paint.

Having AD and KP on the Lakers would be like having one good center for every game. Because the number of times theyll be healthy enough to suit up simultaneously would be quite low.

possible, but it does relieve pressure from AD too. having the ability to not work AD heavily for defensive assignments with KP switching, or just so you can reduce ADs minutes to preserve him most for the year-end while not losing the "big" presence in KP. not a bad option to me, especially if they cant keep Riu.
dont see why they wont bring back Dwight either, even if for games against Jokic and Looney solely, he comes cheap and a need come playoff time to

Sure, in theory I agree it could be a nice addition. but I doubt it’s a realistic salary scenario. Also KP prob doesnt wanna sacrifice that many touches on offense.

exactly - he would fit with the Lakers... but they need to get a better PF , that isn't a cripple.

We are assuming health right? Porzingis is fine. I have him as a top 25 player this season and Wizard's best player.
If your best player is only top 25, then you're not going to have much success since there's only 30 teams. But if he's your 2nd or 3rd best player? Suddenly your team is looking pretty good.

I am fan of Zingis too, but how does a team with Beal, KP, Rui and Kuzma not make the playoffs?
KP doesn't move the needle on his own over a full season. As we saw in the bubble he can definitely win some games on his own int he playoffs.
Imo, he needs to be on a team where he is not expected to contribute every game on the highest level, but where he is allowed to go off when it happens.
It could be something like ... Celtics? It could be ... Heat?

I don't think those players are good. Kuzma is a bum. Beal is around top 40 guy. Rui lol.
Not dallas, that's for sure.

Still doesn't take that much to make the playoffs in the East.

Rui was not good with the Wizards, and he actually wasnt very good with the Lakers either save for a few high profile playoff games where he played above his norm. Also Beal missed a fair amount of games last season if I’m not mistaken.
It was mainly KP and Kuz running the show on a nightly basis, without any accomplished vets in the rotation. They were okay, but just not good enough in a year with a pretty high competitive baseline league wide.

The 3 best players missing 77 games. That’ll do it.
I’m also kinda wondering how you think being a bad rebounder would keep him from being a first or second option. You mean minutes wise?

I'm thinking, that he isn't good enough on offense, to offset him on his poor rebounding.
If he is to play PF or C in the starting lineup, then you need a team of rebounders to offset it, and maybe those people are typically not the best offensive players, so overall, you either lose the rebound battle or watch KP chuck it up at too low a rate.

Im not sure the statistical lack of rebounding tells the whole story. KP can defend farther away from the basket than many bigs (with the speed/length to recover and protect the rim) so he may just not grab as many rebounds for that reason. Doesnt mean the team is rebounding less necessarily. He also plays on the low side of minutes for a starter so his net stats arent as high as they could be.
He’s got a nice overall two way game, but he’s not a big playmaking threat so you need to pair him with someone who is.

I'ma pretend that you mean this as a serious post and tell you how I feel. I am going to make my post 20x more understandable - salute -
However, I was gonna post this somewhere else, but I'll post it here cuz it's relevant. EVERYTHING I POST IS RELEVANT. It's all equal.
Life is a lot more like poker than it is anything else. If you don't understand that, you are failing to understand a lot of levels of life, but especially competition. One's skill at poker, in my opinion, is their ability to win hands 'an amateur' would have folded, and it goes to all the way out. Some people never fold like WB, but he dumbing. TLDR: You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em. haha.
No, but Krisaps problem is confidence. You lose confidence in yourself, and your team loses confidence in you. If you are out there like **** this team I'm gonna bust their ass for putting me on the bench EVERY PRACTICE. They don't pass me the ball in the game, I'm gonna EAT THEM. It's really high level stuff, though, that's why a lot of dudes are cold psychopaths. LOGIC, remember. People think psychopaths are most logical zzz. The actual situation is you were bumming and you gotta go back out and show dudes that they were wrong, or you sit back into your role and 'learn your role.' Dude is not a role player, per se. He IS because he can, IMO, shoot, pass, and slam. He can fit. He seems like a trash rebounder, but it comes down to the same idea. I fought so hard for that reb, but it bounced to the other side of the rim ??? I WAS THERE. I won. That's what you have to say, not outcome. I was there. I was ready. And if you are there and you are ready and people don't see you, you have to bust their ass if you are as good as dude. He's not like gimme the ball and get out of the way, but if you got Kristaps and he's not averaging 20 ppg, you ****ing up.
(PS @ everyone who thinks AI is going to take over the world, think of how hard it is to get a link from one browser window to another.) lol Check this gibberish.

Nearly. If you read box scores you know it goes minutes points shot attempts, which is kinda what we looking at with Kristaps. So dude got 11-17 on DEN... bummies, sure, but the thing is, all those bummies got a chip on their shoulder. So even if guys are resting, the role players are heated. It's not always bad to have people be heated for the sake of the team. You SHOULD be mad sometimes. Just don't give up on the team.
So, I'd take him as PF on my championship. What role what team, cycling... I mean, if you put him instead of Horace Grant in 95 he gets a ring. Would be dum. You guys need to realize how much bad basketball effects outcome. Some people have the skill that they can just ball out no matter the circumstance, just like gimme the ball and go away. Larry... MJ. LeBron is one of the greatest players of all time. Nobody, even tho I'm a Bron hater, can say he's not top 5 at least. I don't want him to be, but he is. Think of his skill set. He's ridiculous size for a pg, and yeah he's a PG. People just learned at some point having another player bring the ball up and give you a catch to start is SMART. Look for something and if not give it to me. But ok. Bron not really great at dribbling. His passes are lasers sometimes, but he's not like throwing lasers ALL the time. However, he UNDERSTANDS BASKETBALL. Like he can recount plays and such. Someone said DeAndre Jordan used to call out other teams sets n plays while playing lolol. There is no correlation between what someone's role is, or what they look like... or how they play... and their ability to understand basketball.
But Bron got ALL TIME points and now with spacing it's even dumber. He can still get 30 if nobody can put a body on him. He's still able to get 10 assists any time he wants. It's like all I gotta do is dribble the ball to a spot and I can get an assist. They talk a lot about scoring, but think about a guy who can go out and get 10 maybe 15 assists if he tries. That's a point guard. He knows how to move. He's pretty broke with shooting, even though I know he practiced a lot. I feel like in the end he's probably gonna brick it LOL. No offense Bronstans. Anyway, point being Bron is a great big dude who has no biz being able to do what he does, and besides having all-time understanding of basketball, pattern recognition, his skill set is pretty mediocre compared to the other all time players. They were fun to watch. Haha. Bron is like check this out nobody can stop me from getting to the rim so just chill. He invented a SYSTEM. I just dislike the system and he being a bitch boy.
So, we got two problems. DOES KRISTAPS UNDERSTAND BASKETBALL AT AN ALL TIME GREAT LEVEL? Answer: NO.
Or you can ask like DOES KRISTAPS HAVE A DOG HEART. Answer: NO.
I watched Bargs cook Shaq's suns. I was a fan from then. Kristaps should be better than Barg at his best. Shooters lose confidence because they correlate makes, percentages with ability. When Bargs was on, he was just pulling it. MEMORIES.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAEWWfig9XE
Man I forgot how good Bargs was. Like I said you guys need to watch some old tape this new bball rotting your brainz.
So I gotta put up PZ in his prime, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH0JgyBJAzQ
edit: lol @ announcers saying he needs to put on some weight. That's the kinda shit that makes people lose confidence... rip. Like he's not doing ok as it is. Also lol at Melo's smirk. Melo is a baller. People just play bad ball, and then the situation falls away. Melo is ultimately shit on. You know, Bron kicks it with Melo https://www.thescore.com/nba/news/2004626 peep the pic, what is the respect level. If you think Melo was the little guy of the crew, nah, it was CHRISSS. Bron might be a pass first dude, but he doesn't like a lot of people Haha. Be real. He went out in the water to get Melo who, who knows what happened but he was out there. He probably can't 'swim' technically, so just on athletic ability and force of will he did that for Melo. ???
Same shit that happened to Kristaps happened to Melo.
Oh should I answer the question now? I wouldn't put him as my second star because is lacking in heart. I would put him as my 3rd offensive option like a Jim Jackson guy except Kristaps do u when we give you the ball. DO WHAT U DO KRISTAPS.
I don't even need colored TEXT.
