As someone who’s been doing interviews and has had a hand in the hiring process for a few years now, I’ll be the first to say the 22 year olds coming out every year get more and more insane. I’m glad I joined the work force when I did, because this shit has become so stupid competitive.

And there are a lot of stupid people of all generations. The difference is, all the shit boomers laugh at gen z’s for not being able to do(like write a check) takes 5 sec to look up and learn. A stupid boomer otoh, just stays hopelessly ignorant. No one in my daughter’s generation is going to know what a dime is either. It doesn’t matter, everyone will be using Apple Pay, Venmo or whatever is hip then. Someone from the 1800’s will think we’re stupid because a lot of us don’t know a score is 20 years. Hell, 99% of Americans don’t know the ****ing metric system. “Siri, how many lbs is 70kg?” It doesn’t matter.

So perhaps maybe early Millennials or going back further to Gen X is the last generation with higher IQ levels than whatever Generation is around today. I get what you're saying though that a Gen Z'er can work a cell phone and TikTok better than a Boomer, but a Boomer when put to the test would probably come out on top in all types of testing for intelligence.

And the new ‘survival of the fittest’ is who’s more capable of wading through the crap to to find good information on the internet, so gen Z is good at that too. This isn’t 1970 when any dumbass can get a well paid union job with barely a high school diploma. I remember watching that 70’s show with my wife and she laughed at the notion that Red(the main character’s dad) was able to support a house, 2 cars, and a daughter going to college on a single income… as a grocery store manager. I'd reckon the difference between conducting this now vs 40 years ago would be a higher variance in responses. Nowadays you can get by without knowing a lot of things but those who want to know can acquire that knowledge rapidly. People are more specialized than before so general knowledge could be considered on the decline. But the people are absolutely not dumber.
