View Full Version : Ya'll keeping up with that missing submersible sub that was visiting the Titanic?

They've lost contact with it and they only have about 50 hours of oxygen left. 5 people on board. Crews on the surface lost contact with the sub roughly an hour into the mission. No one has any idea where they're at.

It's amazing with expense involved making this voyage possible that there isn't some kind of tracking device. And I thought it almost comical that that despite costing millions to build, the sub is controlled by an Xbox controller. Not even a factory controller, an aftermarket one :lol

Still missing. Only 90 hours of oxygen available.

It doesn’t even make sense that people are smart enough to build something like that, but not smart enough to include a tracking beacon, a working radio, an escape plan, a recovery plan etc etc.

You would think there would be safety setups where if oxygen level gets less than XX amount it propels itself upward.

There's some pretty low tech stuff on that sub. Like in order to release the ballast or balance tubes, the crew has to rock back and forth on the walls of sub or something.

Patrick Chewing

So if they've lost all communication which was done by text, my best guess is that the sub imploded due to the pressure around them. That would actually be best case scenario. That way it was instant.

yeah it's been on my mind. i can't imagine what those folks went through or are still going through. best case scenario they're already dead from a quick implosion. otherwise, they're either starving, suffering from dehydration and/or hypothermia with no communication and little hope all while sitting in pitch black deep sea in a 6*9 sub soaked in piss and shit slowly losing their minds with four other people also slowly losing their minds knowing death will be slow and imminent.

i can't imagine a worse scenario.

you know, these people sign a waiver before the expedition warning that the sub is experimental and could result in serious injury, disability, emotional trauma and death. they knew what they were getting into, but i couldn't wish this shit on anybody man.

The sub apparently had issues with it reported in 2018. They didn't address them and kept running the sub. Probably to keep cashing on it rather than spend money to fix. I guess this was bound to happen - now the company will probably go bankrupt.

I wonder if there's some shenanigans behind this, since among the passengers there were a lot of very wealthy people. It seems too convenient that the machine had no way of communicating its location if something went wrong, etc. Who will benefit from this tragedy? Who will make money?

And if the sub died in the wreckage, then they're going to be part of the Titanic story, that people will read about hundreds of years from now.

If US nuclear subs use X-Box controller, then I love the idea. I mean why not. Just plug it in through the USB port, and have some backup controllers.

The fragility of the human species is on display here. It's so easy to die on this planet, and in so many ways, this being one of them. It's so easy to live too. And just the thought of how hopeless we are even on our own planet. We are incapable of rescuing these people. No one can get down there. Only machines. And it takes time. Yet, we can land on the moon. So we have yet to truly conquer Earth.

Well they knew the risk beforehand.

Even if their location was immediately found and they could communicate perfectly, there is no way to rescue them at that depth. So it will just be goodbyes and tell my kids I love them stuff.

there's apparently a low chance of that having happened. a higher chance of them having gotten caught on something such as debris from the titanic's wreck or a lesser chance of getting caught on one of those mile-long fishing nets. watch that video i posted.

there's also a higher chance of there having been a leak and losing power.

unfortunately, those higher chance scenarios would obviously lead to a much more agonizing outcome.

Apparently one of the passengers aboard is a former British naval captain or something like that, who has visited titanic numerous times, with tons of experience.

I am still dumbfounded that such intelligent and seemingly responsible people would take on a voyage with no means of contacting the outside world, no escape plan, no emergency plan, no recovery plan, no extraction plan etc etc.

Titanic you'd drown/die of hypothermia quickly. This is legitimately one of the worst ways imaginable to die, being trapped in very close quarters, not even room to lie down, no food or water, I'm not even sure if there's a bathroom to use, and you're stuck with 4 other people all simultaneously panicking about impending death. I can't even imagine the horror they're experiencing down there, especially if it's pitch black. They will certainly make a movie about this someday.

If that's the way they went out or are going to go out, yeah, that has to be one of the worst ways to go out. Knowing you're in the most unreachable place on the Earth, in the dark, in the cold, and knowing that you will run out of oxygen. That's torture of the mind. The last thing you are experiencing before you die is that.

But I truly think since they lost contact with the outside world unexpectedly, that the vessel imploded on itself and everyone died instantly. Opening that vessel up one way or the other will have to be so gruesome. It's probably best they never find it.

Parks Stephenson, director of the USS Kidd (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Kidd_(DD-661)#Preservation) Veterans Museum and Titanic researcher, commented on the disappearance of the Titan: "No matter what you may read in the coming hours, all that is truly known at this time is that communications with the submersible have been lost and that is unusual enough to warrant the most serious consideration." He added: "I am most concerned about the souls aboard."[111] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Titan_submersible_incident#cite_note-Torres-111) Stephenson is experienced in deep-sea explorations such as the Titan's, having previously dived to view the Titanic on five occasions.[111] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Titan_submersible_incident#cite_note-Torres-111)[112] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Titan_submersible_incident#cite_note-112) Stephenson later added that the divers "wouldn't be out there if it wasn't for the public demand for information regarding this wreck".[113] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Titan_submersible_incident#cite_note-113)

I think in this instance, they never knew it was coming. In a fraction of a second they were all enjoying their voyage down to the Titanic, and then in another fraction of a second, they were dead. There was probably no indication whatsoever to them that there was anything wrong with the vessel.

So now the scandal is that the U.S. Navy knew exactly where that sub was, but we wasted so many man hours combing an area twice the size of Delaware for nothing. All for show, when our leaders knew exactly where that sub was.

High level athletes have to abide by contracts on their life in exchange for fame too. Why you think MJs dad got killed like that? It was a sacrifice MJ had to allow to happen in exchange for his extreme fame.

Best case scenario as an athlete is to be mid or low tier. Make millions but get to lay low and live a great life.

but that extreme fame wasnt given to him like its with people in the entertainment industry...

so he didnt really owe anyone anything.

Being great doesn't automatically make one extremely famous.

Jokic and your boy Dirk... extremely great at their crafts and if you were to ask the average person who they are they'd have no clue.

Ask your mom who Jokic is... bet she wouldn't know. Ask who her Jordan is...? Everybody knows. That's the power of mass media exposure and it can only be attained by signing with a major label which is backed by billionaire types.

More and more information is being revealed on how much of a doofus OceanGate's CEO, Stockton Rush, was. Saw a video (https://www.reddit.com/r/Crazy****ingVideos/comments/14gj0vk/on_a_previous_dive_the_crew_of_the_titan/) on Reddit showing that his crew once went on a dive to the Titanic, and while 13000 feet down, they discovered the thruster was installed backwards. They did some testing on the surface and noticed something was off and STILL decided to go 13000 feet down. When the crew was down there worrying, Stockton's response was "Let's figure out how to remap the PS3 controller" and he even said "I don't remember which one goes down or up". With how stupid and careless this guy was, this submersible was destined to have a tragic ending. I'm honestly surprised it didn't happen sooner. His whole operation was a complete joke from the start.

From what I've read, all the passengers, minus the 19 years old, were hardcore Titanic enthusiasts. One of them was the number one expert. So I don't think they were thrill seekers, except for maybe that one who went to space. So in that sense I feel bad for them, because they were Titanic nerds. Which is kind of lame. I would rather be passionate about something better.

They trusted the science of an idiot, and for that they died.

The story goes as follows:

J. P. Morgan, cancelled his long-awaited journey just hours before its proposed departure. 3 of the wealthiest men on earth, whom were against the creation of the federal reserve bank, happened to be invited aboard for its maiden voyage (John Astor, Isidor Strauss & Benjamin Guggenheim). It then headed full speed into a known iceberg-field, with less than half the required lifeboats, no red signal flares, no Rothschild or Rockefeller on board, and sank to the bottom of the north Atlantic Ocean. Less than a year later, now that the wealthy opposition was out of the way, the federal reserve was created and USA was turned into an incorporated business, with its own business ID number, ’28 U.S.C. 3002 15.

The other day, tons of emails pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein and top JP Morgan people were “accidentally” deleted in a “system error”.

It was a sacrifice. Why would a bunch of super rich people do something as stupid as going on a submarine to a bottomless pit in the ocean? The kid probably had a spidey sense for what was going to happen. They ****ed up on a contract and were told if they didn't go that even worse would happen. Think the opening scene of The Punisher with Frank Castle.

Wendy Rush is a great-great-granddaughter of the retailing magnate Isidor Straus and his wife, Ida, two of the wealthiest people to die aboard the ocean liner.

This is just odd.

I dont believe in coincedences but I also dont see a motivation for ill intent/pupeteering here.

I read that the 19yr old kid brought a rubik’s cube with him so he could break the Guinness world record. Well, the purpose is to thrill seek, but if you are going to do that, you have to know what the hell you're doing in the first place, and there was a reason why all the other companies that dive to this depth or deeper use steel when constructing their deep sea vessels. This guy thought he was a visionary, and he may have very well been, but he lacked the research and sadly paid the price.
