That’s legitimately one of the worst takes I’ve read in a long time :lol Does he really not realize he’s stereotyping all non-Americans based solely on how literally one person decides to conduct themselves? Was he saying the same shit about Duncan when he was winning championships?

Whitlock exists to make a controversial take but Jokic not caring that much isn’t high on his list. You imagine Jokic sticks around very long?

Yeah it’s clearly just a take made to publish something by a deadline.

Giannis was plenty jubilant when he won. As would Luka be. As would Embiid.

Jokic almost HAS to put on a humble front because of how easily he dominates. He’s not having ‘his moment’ or ‘his turn’ like when other guys have a nice run and finish with a chip over other superstars at their level. Jokic is breaking the game and making everyone else look like they just learned to play yesterday. People would resent him quickly if he was hopping around dancing and mugging etc.

You can do that with people when youre all in the same class. Otherwise it doesnt play as well.

no clue how long jokic sticks around

i've heard people say they think he could last a long time given his durability/style

i've heard people say he may be happy to go back to his horses sooner than later

life goes on either way

When Giannis won, he showed how much it meant to him. You can't stereotype the entire human race outside of 1 country based on a single person.

i get he's more 'humble' than your traditional superstar but he still gets a lot of leash from the league...idk how many players in this era can get away with elbowing an NBA owner and only recieve a fine as a result...idk how many superstar's family can yell obscenities and threaten other NBA players during an NBA game and have to be held back by security and still be allowed on the court after a championship. i really thought the NBA wanted no thuggery in their league but i guess exceptions can be made for the fatboi.

This article isnt about Jokic.

Its about America.

It literally states:

That’s not intended as a knock on the Serbian superstar, who has cured his first title. It’s a knock on the NBA and Nike’s 30-year global mission. Globalism diminishes and dilutes everything it touches

hasn't he only 1 ring? In his 7th season......

where is this massive dominance you are talking about?

Same ratio Jordan had his first 7 years, guess he wasn't dominant over that timeframe either.

He very well might have a couple more if it werent for injuries to teammates.

Fact is he’s smashing records that havent been touched since Wilt, on an almost daily basis. And hes not even TRYING to statistically dominate.

Also if you see the game as “rangz = beSt pL@yeR!” thats perfectly fine, we’re just probably gonna have to agree to disagree on most things.

I understand his point, but he missed the cause and effect here.

Jokic won because american players stopped taking the sport seriously a long time ago.

Particularly the black americans are guilty of this. They turned the sport into a fashion show, a reality spectacle.

Tatum hasn't won anything yet, but he is blinging it and acting as if he had.

Jokic is relateable for a lot of fans because he's the opposite, he's that guy on the team who is really, really good, but not flashy and who enjoys other things. The "could have been", who became the champion, because the other teams didn't take him seriously.

The last of the true black winners of the NBA is Kawhi. He's the only one to have that mindset of domination combined with the physical skills to do it.

That's what it takes to win a ring, Kawhi level of determination. Even someone like Lebron had the determination to collude as much as necessary to win. Young talent don't even care enough to collude.

He's saying Jokic's "lack of passion" drives down fan interest in the game. Now I'm not clear on his reasoning but he's either arguing it's because:
A) NBA isn't that important and Jokic knows it and the NBA isn't important because globalism, decline of America, etc, etc.
B) NBA isn't that important to Jokic because he's not American and they don't value the NBA as much as Americans.

I'd probably have to listen to his full segment to find out. What did you gather from it?

Whitlock did a segment on this back in March 3, 2023. He pretty much hates on all foreign born white players because he doesn't want them to take jobs of white American players.

https://foxsportsradio.iheart.com/content/2023-03-08-jason-whitlock-black-american-nba-players-are-jealous-of-nikola-jokic/

In a list of my top eight MVP candidates, six of those eight players did not grow up on American soil. Jokic, he's from Serbia. Giannis is a Nigerian raised in Greece. Embiid is from Cameroon. Doncic is Slovenian. Gilgeous-Alexander was born and raised in Canada, and Sabonis is a Lithuanian, and the son of former NBA player Arvydas Sabonis. Just two of the NBA's top players this season are American raised [Morant, Tatum], everybody else raised someplace else. The NBA's open borders policy works just the same as Joe Biden's. The people getting squeezed first are Black Americans. Green and Perkins are too uninformed and too reliant on social media for information to realize what's really going on in the NBA. American labor is being outsourced to foreigners in the name of 'globalism' and a new world order. They're so blinded by racial idolatry and left-wing identity politics that they'd rather have their American-born children and grandchildren compete against the entire planet for American jobs than compete against White Americans.

I agree this is a dumb take, but not because of Jokic reserved approach to winning, but because sports is a stupid battlefield to stake when arguing against globalism. I agree globalism is bad in general but sports is one of the few exceptions. We are not talking about auto manufacturing here. Sports is universal and it thrives when international competition is involved. Why isn’t Whitlock saying this about soccer? All the top clubs have diverse rosters with players from all continents and it has not hampered the identity of the game at all. Even further, when teams play on the national level, it stokes patriotism especially in tournaments like World Cup. So globalism here hasn’t impeded national identity.
