Tyrese Maxey will only make $4.3 million for the Sixers this season. he's up for a contract extension, but supposedly the team is not planning on offering him one this year in order for them to keep salary cap flexibility.
Is this a mistake? He's a big part of their future.

Strange move he is their best young player. I don't get it.

I like him but he’s not that good. I think organizations need to get better at delivering money to guys who have proved they are on superstar level (like Austin reaves) and not just a guy because he’s young and isn’t awful.

Not a max money guy.
In my world, he gets a contract like 15-20 million.

If preserving cap flexibility just means keeping the ability to totally reset by trading Embiid for Paul George type package I can see that. Not if they’re still trying to do something.

If Harden is leaving the sixers know their championship window is closed. Embiid shitting the bed over and over told us that already but whatever.
Maxey is awesome and deserves better.

It would make sense if they have some big move coming where they bring in a superstar. Here's hoping they're just being cheap.
Edit: If true.

I dug into the situation a little more. I don’t think this about salary cap flexibility. Maxey would be entering an Austin reaves type situation next summer with teams poison pilling him. If maxey was in their long term future sixers would have extended him by now. This tells me he’s on the trading block this season.

I think this is great.
Jrue Holiday will be retiring 2025 , so Maxey can step in and play with the freak !!!

They can still offer him an extension up until the season starts I think.

I'd trade Maxey for a bona-fide perimeter scorer. Maxey is great but he lives up to his comparison as a Lou Will type scorer. But the well is dry. Bad timing.

Huge mistake if true. Plenty of other teams will try to snap him up.

Philly should just blow it up. Epic failure and squandered every asset from all those pathetic tanking years.
The big shrivel is a bust, hardon is a career loser and the rest of the team is trash.. maxey is half decent but he won’t develop into anything there.

20ppg on 43% shooting from 3. Yes not that good.
