View Full Version : Suns just signed 3 40% 3pt snipers...added lots of length and depth

eric gordon 42%
Yuta Watanabe 44% 6'9
KBD 40% 6'8
For comparison to the last season squad, suns only had KD shooting above 40%, damion lee shot well too but he got like a total of 3 minutes playing time in the playoffs bc monty williams is a horrible coach that played favorites and alienated certain players he disliked.
they took 2 games from the champs with a depleted bench, injured cp3 and incompetent coach that had no idea how to utilize book+KD. imagine how much better they'll be with Beal+bench+3pt shooting and a competent coach. If Vogel can refurbish Ayton back to his 21 run where he was giving fatboi Jokic a hard time...oh my :D
we got a squad. a MF'ing squad.

considering we have book/beal/kd to mix in with the bench, i don't think so. beal allows kd to get rest while staying in with book and vice versa. the only position we are light on is the center position, yuta and kbd can play forward. dependig on how good ayton plays, i expect that position to have a better back up before the trade deadline in february.

Doesn’t change the fact that that bench sucks. I would start Okogie for defensive purposes. Bring Eric Gordon off the bench for scoring. He was a former 6th man

we don't need shot creaters off the bench. we just needed people that can shoot and make their shots when required. that's literally what lost them the series against denver. no one apart from booker and KD was able to hit their shots even if they were wide open like a whore's legs. that and monty kept inserting shamet despite playing horribly 90% of the time. the one game he actually hit his 3s, the suns won bc he was the only role player that made shots that night. when you have booker, beal, and KD, all you need is people to hit 3s off the bench. Yuta and Eubanks are actually solid rebounders and can play decent defense, both have a hustle mentality. Vogel will get the team onboard with playing team defense, something Monty couldn't do because he never tried or preached it.

I understand they can stagger KD Beal and Booker so one is always on the floor not putting Gordon in the starting line is overkill and leaves them vulnerable defensively. They can always bring Gordon off the bench and still have another starter alongside him. That’s the most logical strategy imo. Gordon in the starting lineup is just overkill and leaves their bench rail thin like last season.

Suns have a lot more size as well
Metu - 6'10
Yuta - 6'9
KBD - 6'8
Booker - 6'6
KD - 6'10
Ayton - 7'
Eubanks - 6'9
Camara - 6'9
lots of length and size. suns were horrible rebounders last season, they just filled that need with some depth.

i agree but i'm thinking gordon may want starter minutes if he gave up millions to take a vet min in Phoenix. could be wrong though, the 2nd unit would definitely benefit from having him in that lineup.

The title odds right now are split between Boston, Milwaukee, Pheonix, and Denver.
I agree though that the Suns should be favorites. They're the most talented team in the league.

i'm not calling the suns favorites but they're looking good. People forget Kd was really good on defense last year, booker is no longer a negative. the only bad defender for the suns is beal. Bench is not good but way better than it should be for how little money the suns had to give out. yuta/gordon were steals

yep, Booker can finally hold his ground on defense, still a farcry from being elite but he isn't a negative like you said. And KD played the best defense out of any Suns player in the playoffs, he was effectively our Center for periods at a time. Just need Vogel to revive the old Ayton and our defense can be legitimate.

Losing CP3 is going to lead to another Brooklyn scenario.
Neither Beal or KD are leaders or even floor generals.
CP3 is known to choke, but he is also one of the best leaders and floor generals in the game, he is a culture guy, someone who creates a franchise on his own.
Who is going to pass KD and Beal the ball?

coach already said it will be a PG by committee. and i'm not too worried about that, Book has played PG before, they also have Cam Payne who held his own as PG when CP3 has gone down. it's his streaky scoring that makes him unable to be a starter, but that was before we had Beal and KD...if we really need a distributor, he'll be just fine since we won't need him to score this time around.
and CP3 has gone down due to an injury in every single playoffs series he played with a Suns jersey, how will this year be any different? the guy was absentee...so it's business as usual.

Bruh, Booker and Payne are not real point guards.
Suns don't even have serviceable ball handlers now. Forget about actual point guards.
It's going to end in a disaster and trade talks. There's no way Booker/Beal/Durant can share.
Shouldn't have gotten Beal. Then again, maybe you can trade Durant, that's what I would do.

well this is a bad take. durant and booker were a couple of decent role players away from beating the nuggets. even without CP3 they won a game.

Vogel being the coach + adding Beal is an unreal upgrade. 3 30 point scorers who can all shoot plus a coach known for drilling defense. I think the sun's are only 4th in title odds right now which is sleeping on them imo.

yeah we already saw how bonkers the offense between book and kd was...they realistically just needed more shooters around them and ayton. now they have beal, shooters, eric gordon and vogel+fizdale coaching. those 2 are defensive gurus...ayton has someone to coach him finally.

The Suns, with the constraints of minimum contracts, did pull it off.
The acquired Eric Gordon as their final starter. He tried to sign with the Suns 11 years ago, but the Pelicans matched that contract against his wishes.
Even though Yuta Watanabe is likely to regress to the mean, his size and hustle is a plus for any team. Okogie is back to play defensive stopper.
Given the limited resources, the Suns' offseason was effectively executed according to reasonable expectations.

In all seriousness, they should be looked at as a championship contender even if I believe their roster is flawed. It's not like the West is filled with dominant teams, we saw that in the postseason. Warriors are getting up there in age, Lakers seem to have improved, but injuries can be an issue & the Nuggets just lost their best bench player.
I don't see the comparisons to the 2014 Nets, basically everyone at the time knew KG & Pierce were pretty much done as players, current KD shouldn't belong in that convo and Booker is in his prime. Maybe the 2020-2022 Nets would be a better comparison?

Maybe the 2020-2022 Nets would be a better comparison? yeah they're more similar to 22 nets than 14 nets lol. and even then...different teams. kyrie and harden have an ego and like to do their own thing so to speak. whereas Book and Beal are less selfish and have proven to play offball pretty well. we already know Book and KD work very well, they just need shooters around them.
Suns looking good, they really need another big though..
Eubanks is surprinsingly good for the cost, above average shot blocker. not great offensively but thats ok bc they do not need much from the center position offensively. cleaning up the boards and playing defense is all they need from the big position, but it would be nice to have gotten a mason plumlee or zubac, they're way out of the budget however. realistically the money wasn't there for a better center.
