well his element is a significantly slower pace, with less athletic competitors...so yeah, i'd for sure say out of his element. unfortunately this is just a preview of the nba, so if he can't score in the summer league, he sure as hell isn't going to have an easier time doing it during the reg season.

It's only one game but I said it before... it's better to be strong than long.

Tim Duncan was always kinda thick and 7foot. He was an Olympic swimmer talent. David Robinson was a black Adonis rippling with muscle. Wemby is a 7'5 paper thin Durant without the range.

It's hard to build a career when you're that skinny. This may be why britanny spears got backhanded. They couldn't let anybody get close or he might blow over in the wind.

It's not just the shooting %. Victor is a good shot blocker but I seen absolutely nothing to write home about on the other end. Like, literally nothing really impressive at all. Dude is a 7'5 bad shooter constantly hanging around the 3 point line waiting to get shots up. Makes no sense. His screening looked bad also. Missed dunks. Missed layups. Some good passing I guess. Looked like a below average NBA player. There was nothing that screamed #1 pick.

Spurs have some work to do.

I don't think this is true at all times. I mean kaj was also considerably skinny for his height but he's had quite successful seasons in his first five years in the league, tho t'was a long time ago and it's very different now.

KAT always had good size and decent body fat%. He's just soft mentally and won't bang.

Wemby feels like a porzingis type where he's too tall for his own good. You don't want to be 7'5 with zero strength. That's a tough mountain to climb. But who knows? Maybe he'll do it.

Edit: if you meant Kareem he was a lot thicker in the lower body. He was like a horse lower body and slim up top. Wemby is light in the legs and upper body.

Look how much Chet improved his body with one season of growth and NBA weight training. They're both similar body types.

That frame isn’t made to last an 82 game season and playoffs.
I just call it like I see it.

Said the same about Zion, he’s a fat piece of shit that barrels into the lane and jumps full strength every posession. Bound to fail. And so far he has.

Comparing wemby to bran who was a physical specimen at a young age is ridiculous. It’s like comparing Shawn Bradley to Karl Malones physiques.
Brans downfall is that he’s always been a mental pus.sy..

I'm gonna watch the game and see what I like and don't like about his game and options.

I will say this, which I wrote several times already:

Wemby is nowhere near the talent he was touted as. He is not at all an all time talent like Luka.

If people had been even remotely knowledgeable about Europe, then ESPN wouldn't have been able to get away with it.

Like I said, anyone could watch his game highlights from France and see him bodied by much smaller, but physically mature players. Could see him be slow in getting shots up, clanking a lot of them.

He might become a star, I hope so, but like I said, he played at a level of competition that was many times worse than what Luka did. If Luka played in the NBA (Euroleague), then Wemby played in high school, not even college.

ESPN were so driven by racial animosity, they were willing to hype up another euro, just because he wasn't Luka.

Wardell Curry
07-08-2023, 09:16 AM
He could be the GOAT. He could be the biggest bust ever. I don't know. Whatever the case, he probably received top 3 all time hype before being drafted, and you best believe he's going to catch an ungodly amount of shit if he doesn't live up to it.

LeBron, Shaq, Wenbamyama? Can anyone name a more widely hyped prospect than these three? I suppose Kareem as well.

Whether it's fair to Wembanyama or not, and it's not, people often consider you a bust in proportion to your hype even if you're one of the best ever. This is, among many reasons, is the primary reason LeBron gets so much hate. People absolutely love to tear other people down when said person has been getting a lot of praise. They eat that shit up.

Even the staunchest LeBron hater would have to admit he's a top 50 all time player at a bare minimum and I think that's giving them a lot of slack. When you consider 5000 people have played in the NBA and millions have tried, that's pretty incredible. But understand, people love to hate on guys when other people are hyping them up. A lot of people call LeBron the goat, and this is the primary driver of the hate. People can't stand someone getting praise when they don't see that person in the same light.

Obviously i was talking about kareem here, not anyone else. So it looks like wemby is gonna need some chewing-type diet if he truly wants to dominate the league. Today tho he just won't cut it in his current form but with subsequent improvements to his frame he could be there after some years.

wembanana won't be a bust, he might be nutted on, busted in, made a bottom...but he won't be darko milicic. his defense alone will keep him on the court. it's very useful to be long and athletic, he will be a nuisance in the paint on defense. even if he doesn't turn into a good shooter, he should be OK on offense as long as he develops some hook shots, little turn around shots near the basket.

I don’t need to read that reply. You made a knee jerk reaction after 1 summer league game to stake claim on being “right”.

“See told u he was a a bust! Hahaha”

Just blatantly moronic. Kid hasn’t even hit his prime and he’s a bust. So no I don’t need to read why you feel this way. Chances are if you’re wrong you won’t own up to it anyway. There was once a time where folks questioned Giannis. Then one day he emerged into that after a few seasons. Weird

Zion a bust? Worst case scenario he is a disappointment if injury ends his career. Given what he has shown in 114 games he avoided the “bust” label. Imagine putting Zion name in a list with Kwame Brown, Olawakandi, Adam Morrison, Greg Oden. And posting thier career averages. Smarten up. Leave the knee jerk reactions to teenagers who have yet to get laid. Or still think rubbing one off before actually having sex is “awesome”, “clutch”.

i mean, the more extreme takes calling him a bust are dumb...but relatively speaking, the level of hype he has recieved vs his play thus far does earn him some criticism. some compared him to lebron...it's pretty obvious he's not going to be as great as LeBron was in his rookie year. his offense is nowhere near as refined, his shooting is not what was promised and he has not dominated. his defense is actually good, but that's about it...

People on here were saying Lebron would be out of the nba in 3 years during his first summer league because he couldn’t shoot and was all athleticism. I had people laughing at my suggestion he could average 15/5/5 as a rookie since they would force feed him the ball.

Im serious. The main haters were Melo fans but there were plenty of others. People still occasionally here now had Lebron as Darius Miles.

Finally got around to watching the game. Biggest thing that stood out to me was the severe lack of fundamentals in basically everything except going straight up for a block. People might question his aggressiveness but that could just be a rules adjustment (you get called for a foul if you do certain aggressive moves overseas whereas NBA they will call a foul on your defender).

Anyway, the lack of boxing out was painful to watch as he was outrebounded by dudes a foot shorter than him even though they both went up at the same time. Also his moves look super canned and tries to dunk with no balance or tries to layup off the wrong foot. Hopefully Timmy can be the perfect teacher for some of these shortcomings. Wemby has a long way to go, but oozes potential

That’s what stood out to me too. While it’s far too early to judge him, I was a little bit taken aback by his lack of polish, particularly since he’s coming from a pro league and not college. It might come with time, we’ll see

It's a fair assessment. He may never be Tim Duncan polished or even anything close, but if he can just clean up a few things then he's still a superstar level player.

It's hard to see him box out those who are heavier than him. :oldlol:

It is kinda sad when a 6-3 dude allegedly outweighs him. Even still though when you are that big, you can leverage the shit out of people if you know how...hint: it's not standing straight up looking around like deer in headlights

Again though, bigs NORMALLY take about 3 or 4 years to really "get it" in this league. The Duncan's and Shaqs basically never happen. Luckily for the Spurs, their excessive draft picks line up with this which is why I'm guessing Pop took a 5 year extension. He wants to be there when everything comes together.

Well, he'll need some bulk if he wants to be dominant later on. But rn, he seems to remind of ralph sampson. I mean similar height/weight combo while being the #1 overall pick in drafts by their respective teams. Tho wemby is still questionable in the long term, he is very fortunate if he lasts and doesn't end up becoming like him after a decade playing in this league.

Now this guy who went like 2-14 before throwing up some empty stats in a loss the next game is claiming it's easier to score in the NBA than Europe. :durantunimpressed:

You should just stop hating on him now before he actually starts dominating.
