Shaq's last 40-point game of his career. Going up against Bargnani and Bosh - a good example of a modern frontcourt. Phoenix really resurrected him in '09. Put up 17.8 ppg on a league-leading 61% FG. Made the All-Star team too. Check out the dribble-drive spin move he did at 3:20 in the video.

No one in this league is gonna stop that lazy-fat S.O.B one on one in his prime.

Is that supposed to be a dig at the league now? No one could stop him one on one in his prime in his league either.

No one ever could do it.

You could apply that in any era. But OP implied modern frontcourt.

He would do that nightly if he was in the league now. Just nothing you can do to stop that especially with the weak sauce front lines of the modern NBA.

Shaq was solid that year, but the Suns got worse as a team when they traded for him.

Not sure that proved anything. Just a month earlier he put up 16 pts with 5 TO and 6 fouls (fouled out) against the same team.

Was also Shaq's 17th season and he still played at an All-NBA level. Ended up making the third team. I also remember reading a stat where in 40% of the games Shaq played that year, he logged double-digit points AND rebounds. Beast.

He'd be awesome in any era. Often, you hear fans scale an individual based on things like 'pound for pound'. Or even just height. Well for Shaq's weight AND height its absurd he was great for so long. His longevity doesn't get talked about enough.

Shaqs problem in today's era wouldn't be his offense, it would be his defense in today's format where everyone has way better long range shooting. Teams would spam Shaq in the screen game and he wouldn't be able to get away with camping around the paint and not closing out on shooters. Imagine Shaq trying to stay with like brook Lopez all game. Teams would effectively be able to draw him out of the paint and tire him out running.

46-36 and miss the playoffs. Only possible in the wild west.

With that squad they probably should have won more than 46 games. I think Shaq was a little bit of a damper for them, despite playing well individually.

They were all about running and sharing the ball. Shaq couldn't run and needed to be fed.

They didn't have Marion who is one of the more underrated players in history.

They were bogged down by old Grant Hill and Shaq
