Clearly, LeBron James is as good of a human as he is a basketball player.
His foundation recently celebrated the grand opening of the I PROMISE Housing development, which will provide 50 affordable units in Akron, Ohio.
According to report by News 5 Cleveland, the 50-unit building features two, three and four-bedroom apartments with fiber-optic Wi-Fi, community and fitness rooms. Some units are designed for those with mobility and sensory needs, the outlet also noted.
“Young people who have a quality place to live are better students and become better citizens in our community,” said Dan DeVille, Vice Chair of East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation according to News 5 Cleveland.
The LeBron James Family Foundation was founded in 2004, serving more than 1,400 Akron-area students by providing them with the programs, support, and mentors they need to succeed in school and beyond according to its website.
“We understand; we want to put our arms around the community and help however we can, trying to fill in the gaps and be the glue that binds things together,” said LJFF’s We Are Family Coach, Willie McGee as reported by News 5 Cleveland. “They have somewhere where you can call home that’s safe, that you can get a good hot meal and have a good rest at the end of the night—it’s really what they try to provide here, and I think they hit the mark.”

Total was about 15 million. It was paid for by the Lebron James Family Foundation, as the article states.

Bingo.
I read an in depth article about this on ESPN a few months ago.
Apparently this is part of an I Promise "wrap around" program. It continues Lebron's personal support of I Promise kids into their adulthood.
To qualify for I Promise a grade school student must be in the lowest 30% of performance among students in their district. Usually these are already the under performing districts to begin with, so the bottom 30% from within that.
I Promise gives them access to specialized instruction, assistance, education and so on. But when they graduate, theyre also provided a community to live in, with curated adult education, vocational instruction (the communities often have things like on-site Starbucks and so on, where I Promise adults can work close to home etc).
It's a fantastic program tbh. It basically takes the kids who struggle the most, who are must susceptible to society's ills, and it concentrates them in one place - but it's a fun place, almost like a camp - so it concentrates them all into a camp where they can be aided and assisted and molded into the kind of citizens society will need in the future.
It's a LeBraveNewWorld.
Lebron out here doing real shit. God bless the man. :applause:

If the "I Promise" school was worth anything, the kids coming out of there would be getting decent jobs and wouldn't need "affordable housing" from the slum lord.

In Akron, all second graders who test in the bottom 30% of reading scores are entered into a lottery for the third grade classes at I Promise. The number of kids with learning disabilities is capped so that teachers aren’t overwhelmed. If selected, a student leaves their current elementary school and attends I Promise for potentially third through eighth grades. (A child doesn’t have to enroll if chosen.)
“That’s how you’re selected, so you can’t say, ‘Oh, my gosh! I’m LeBron’s third cousin and want to be in the school.’ It doesn’t work like that,” said Michele Campbell, The LeBron James Family Foundation’s executive director. “Then once you’re in the program, we have a million wraparound supports.”
It’s open to any child in the bottom 30% of performance (who does not have a learning disability/medical condition).
They are pooled together from various schools and given their own community to grow up and live in, overseen and managed by foundation and government appointees etc. What they learn about the world, what news they get, what careers they find, it’s all generously curated for them with love and compassion.
It’s the absolute definition of generosity. This is LeKing at his finest. Imagine how thankful little Cynthia or Tyrone or Genix would be that Lebron did this for them.
“Thank you so much Lebron!!”
“No need to thank me. This isnt about me Genix. This is about YOU Genix. The future of humanity is about YOU Genix, and this is just the beginning.”
Incredible.
Tbh Im not sure Lebron himself even understands how generous he’s being. He’s a busy guy, he mainly lends his name to these projects and initiatives, his advisors figure out the details with all these wonderful humanitarian efforts that Lebron puts his reputable stamp of approval on. But the credit still belongs to Lebron. He gives it legitimacy. And thats why is IS “the man.”

Thats what you fail to understand. The kids dont need to “come out of there.”
Theyre being gifted a life-long community campus thanks to LeMagnanimous. Why would they wanna come out of there and live in a scary racist world where theyre literally hunted down in the streets?
They dont need to and shouldnt have to. And they wont have to, thanks to REAL leaders like LeServant.
DEAL WITH IT.

The property management company has their hands full with this.
A bunch of lazy low IQ bums in the same buildings sounds like a nightmare situation.
But good question, the maintenence costs will be extraordinary

This isn’t the charity y’all imagine it is.
Sure he’s providing the initial 15mil in up front construction cost….
But …. He’s writing that 15mil off of any earnings for the years it takes to construct…nothing wrong with that, but it’s not just str8 charity. Here’s why …. down the road ….
….. guess who’s paying for the vast majority of all their subsidized section 8 rent every month ??? Guess who’s paying for ALL THE Tenants’ subsidized EBT card food every month ??? Guess who’s paying for maintenance etc ???
… guess who is paying for all of that for the lifespan of the complex ? Which will likely total much more than 15million every year …
Guess whose paying for all of that ?
I’ll give you a clue …: it isn’t LeBron.

The practical reality is that without the personal guidance and patronage of St. Lebron James, a lot of vulnerable youth in this area would grow up to be “publicly housed” in a prison anyway.
This ultimately serves as a sort of a compromise.
