I have no issue with Breen.

I remember Doc Rivers calling 2004 playoff games with Al Michaels and he brought very little to the table from what I remember, but I guess he is an upgrade over Mark Jackson? Doris Burke is downright terrible.

First, wise move to axe Van Gundy. He is undisciplined and scatter-brained. You want to listen to him- go listen to sports radio. You can endure his meandering commentary such as "Why NBA Rule X should be changed". That's not appropriate while the game is being played; comment on the game.

Breen is a professional and very good at what he does, play-by-play.

Doris belongs on the sidelines. She doesn't have what it takes to be a commentator - both in terms of the quality of her observations and in terms of dull, "put you to sleep" voice. Some people have a voice for commentary, some don't. I once worked at a radio station- and no matter how much I worked on my voice, I didn't have it (so I ended up doing research for the shows on the station).

ESPN has been trying to shoehorn women into men's sports but in this case they clearly have the wrong fit.

Doris talks too much and when she does that her voice becomes grating.

I've enjoyed hearing Doc speak as a coach; how he does in color commentary I guess we'll have to see.

Yeah that is a great combo. Hubie is now 89 years old. I believe he's still calling games.

Guess I’m in the minority, I think Doris Burke is a very good commentator. She definitely knows the game and gives quality breakdowns of concepts, she’s relaxed and comfortable as a commentator and articulates well, and clearly has passion for it. When they first brought her in years ago I was irked about listening to a woman, but once I got used to it enough to be objective I found her to be a great contributor. I really dont care about what her voice sounds like, which I dont have a problem with anyway.

Doc’s a very likable guy in general, I dont remember his previous stint in commentary well but having coached the C’s, Clips, and 6ers since then Im sure he has a lot of great stories and juicy anecdotes. I doubt his voice will sound as harsh when hes not screaming from the bench.

Is Mark Jackson not returning then? I dont remember him being listed in those layoffs, is he just being demoted from the top team? Mark can actually be pretty funny when theyre just choppin it up, his basketball commentary is obviously pretty limited to basic clichés tho.


All that said… none of it matters to me cuz Im sure as hell not watching any NBA on ESPN this season :lol

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I didn't love Mark & JVG in the booth. They have great chemistry but they were often too playful and comedic for my taste. Sometimes it actually did take away from the game.

Always thought they were more suited for the studio panel, especially JVG. He could have been ESPN's answer to Barkley. He would have been very entertaining in that role.
