Of course it isn’t really all time because the stats don’t go that far back.

For some reason I thought Beal was taller than that and I’m surprised he dunks that much. And Francis is damn high considering he was washed at like…27?

I expected Wade to be first, but I honestly never would have thought he'd nearly double up Russ, that's pretty surprising to me.

wade and westbrook of course were the first two that popped in my mind before i clicked the thread. tony allen is surprising at first but he played for along time and was athletic so it makes sense

wade also holds title for most blocks by players under 6 4 too probably by a long shot. wade had a huge wingspan and standing reach for his size and was strong and athletic. he played a lot bigger then his height

Wade dunked an astonishing amount for a player his size. Unprecedented to be honest. He was dunking as much as LeBron was.

Wade is like Barkley. Crazy explosive off two even right under the basket so quick layups for most turn into kinda weird looking two hand dunks. Steve Francis had some of that too.

Top 100 dunkers ever, or you know, since they started tracking it 25 years ago lol, for anybody interested. Wade comes in at 21st

It’s wild there are people who shoot free throws at a higher rate than some people complete dunks at nearly 7 feet tall.

Westbrook only 81.9% on dunks

No one else on that list is below 85.3% and most are over 90%

Just an unreal level of inaccuracy at dunking.

6'4'' is a kind of random cutoff and also one that is a bit shady.

Is Wade really only 6'4''? You could convince me he was 6'5''. Same with Westbrook.

Melo dunked more than Kobe and Vince Carter? Wasn't expecting that at all.

Off the top of my head I want to say westbrook is closer to 6’2 then 6’5

True I just dont remember him dunking much. And his poverty vertical leap. I guess Kobe and carter's dunks were way more spectacular so easier to remember.

I guess you're right.

Wade also looks notably shorter compared to Kobe.

Just goes to show you can play taller if you've got hops and physicality.

Vince got a rep from his highlight dunks, but most of his game was quite similar to other shooting guards of his era, Ritchmond, Allen, mostly a midrange shooter.

Dwight and Shaq #1 and #2!

- Prime Dwight (08-12) was getting 2.75 dunks per game.
- Shaq (02-06) was getting 3.52 dunks per game.

Hard to compare modern guys like Rudy and Giannis. The paint is way more open now; I believe Gobert broke the dunk record for a single season. 2019-2022 Rudy did 3.47 dunks per game.

Dikembe was getting 1.77 dunks per game in his two best seasons in the '90s. He's the closest guy to him physically and stylistically. The dunk numbers only go back as far as the play-by-play data, which is 1996-1997 at the earliest.

Another quick two hand right under the basket dunker like Wade and Barkley. Is it possible our brains don’t register those? They feel like layups.

One of the most unbelievable stats of all time is that Carmelo’s career high in dunks in a season is 20 higher than LeBron’s. He was actually dunking a ton early in his career.

Yep.

I think Melo is taller than people think. He was also quite athletic, ran the floor and played in the post. That's a good way to get dunks.

yeah, it happens, it took me maybe a year to realize Gary Payton II was 6’3”, before that if anyone asked me i would have said 6’5” or 6’6” by the way he plays. I think Steph Curry has called him the tallest 6’3” player ever or maybe he plays bigger than any 6’3” player ever, can’t quite remember and it was a bit of a hyperbole statement but it’s the same thing what we are talking about here

Wingspan means more than height I guess. Allows you to manipulate the ball an extra length away from defenders trying to swat it.

They are both around 6'3 w/o shoes. Wade had an elite wingspan but only a good standing reach and max vertical. Kobe has a better vertical than Wade and a standing reach 3" taller. VC has a much better vertical and a standing reach 4" taller. Wade did have slightly wider hands than Kobe which helped. VC has everything..Elite vert, length and hand size. For reference Dwayne Wade has the same standing reach as 6'5 Austin Reaves. Wade, like Westbrook, just had fierce motor. Better than 99% of all NBA players.

Wingspan means more than height I guess

Standing reach means more than height and wingspan. Don't underestimate high set shoulders

wingspan but even more importantly to what we are talking about is standing reach. to be honest height doesn’t really mean shit, it’s all about standing reach and wingspan.

And obviously vert and motor.

6'5 Austin Reaves has a decently impressive 8'6 standing reach. But is a below average dunker

6'5 Alex Caruso has a pathetic standing reach of 8'2. But is an above average dunker thanks to his 9" vert and higher motor advantage over Reaves

It's crazy how 8'2 is a pathetic reach. :lol That's probably higher than 99% of people alive. NBA athletes are freaks though.

I've always found it strange how players like McCollum or DMitchell can seem like different heights on a nightly basis. 6'2.5 one night and then 6'4 the next.

6'5 players have an NBA combine standing reach average slightly over 8'4. Caruso's standing reach is probably that of the average 6'5 white male on the street

I think Kobe is a legit 6'6'' like MJ.

DeMarcus Cousins: 6'9.5" barefoot height with a 9'5" standing reach
DeAndre Jordan: 6'9.75" barefoot height with a 9'5.5" standing reach

Those are a couple of the most impressive standing reaches relative to height. McHale is around the same measurement. Long arms and high-set shoulders/short neck.

I would disagree regarding limb length. Kobe's arms and legs were longer than MJ's. He just had smaller hands so less of his wingspan was there. Kobe to me clearly has a longer stride due to longer legs.

Yeah Kobe didn't have huge hands. But he had not just good length, but an elite standing reach for his height.

The average SG at the NBA combine was 6'5(in shoes)and had a 8'5 standing reach. The average SF was 6'7.75 with a 8'9.25 standing reach. Kobe was slightly higher than the SF average at 8'9.5

DeAndre Jordan could basically hang on the rim flat footed, and had a 31 inch vertical. So on some of his dunks his hand was 3 feet above the rim.:lol That's nerf hoop status.
