I stopped watching cartoons/disney at a very young age. I remember in middle school while everyone around me was watching wrestling & kid shows I was up at night watching shows like Niptuck & Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck in particular was pretty dark looking back on it. :lol

One of the Barbie's in the movie is going to be played by a transgender, which is a brilliant marketing strategy. So my guess is that Off the Court is going to watch it a couple of times.

I have two young girls, so I’m definitely going to be seeing it at some point. Not looking forward to it because it seems existential and those movies sometimes make me think about my own mortality and thus creep me out.

Left wing activists posing as filmmakers couldn't help themselves and had to infuse their lame politics into a movie about a plastic toy for little girls.

Seems like the movie was made for everyone BUT the type of girls that actually enjoyed playing with Barbie when they were young.

ShawkFactory

i believe the insinuation is that because the move has a woke narrative, it's no longer meant to appeal to the traditional feminine character, but rather the 'new' leftist derived female identity of being a physical woman with male traits.

in short, i don't think purple haired antifa women were playing with barbies in their childhood.

No trust me understood the insinuation from the poster I quoted. My only question is is the movie actually that, or did someone on the far end of the political spectrum take it that way, write an article about it and get similarly minded people who have never seen the movie to agree.

Kind of like how lefties seemed to have issues with Sound of Freedom.

Of course, which is why it's so weird that the filmmakers thought Barbie would be a good vehicle for their man-hating feminism.

Barbie is like the ultimate girly girl children's icon. Apparently they take issue with that. Barbie as we know her isn't progressive enough and needed to be purified.

You’re thinking way too much about this bro. It’s really not that deep.

From conversations I’ve had with people who have watched it, the actual thoughtful aspect of the film isn’t about man-hating feminism. While that sector of women certainly exists in the same way that male incels exist, that’s not what it’s about.

The tongue-in-cheek stuff can be lost on some people.

Because most American Men in 2023 are secretly gay or are trying to be.

I saw it today with my little cousins cause they desperately wanted to go over the weekend and their parents were busy. So I took them to the theater

It wasn't bad... I'd give it a 6/10

Margot looks hot as ever and John Cena even makes a cool cameo

Nah, man, don't put that on your brother... haha. For real, though, we are in a really tough time and some people are just not sure where they fit. The world is crazy and, for some strange reason, they are trying to redefine sexuality by (well, in many ways, but...) feeding us this type of media. EVERYWHERE. News, net, art. Even if I were gay, it doesn't follow that I'd wanna see barbie. There is more to it than that. I'd wanna see two dudes going at it!! ayy... I'd wanna see Ken!

But yeah, have faith, bruther. Spread love, don't judge. That's what everyone needs now. It's a meme, but this is a crucial time in history and you need to tell people "It's ok..." not necessarily it's OK to be... whatever they are (cuz a lot of people are on some other shit,) but it's OK to just... chill and be what you want to be. It's frightening how 'influenced' society is right now. I still believe it is about to break or be broken, so hold tight... but yeah in the meantime try to drag people back with positivity not judgment, cuz judgment is just gonna lock them harder into their misguided lifestyle.

Cuz there's way more than gay going on here. Haha, gay used to be something people could joke about in movies, and it was hilarious... it was an accepted part of the world. This is some whole other shit. It's like the total blur of the lines of any level of uniqueness. It's SHAMEFUL, but most of all, scary... scary that people aren't doing anything, but I don't think they know what to do. We gotta rethink how we are approaching this though, so people can be reached!

Barbie $162m
Oppenheimer $82m

Together 2nd biggest movie opening weekend ever.

I scoffed at the idea of ever watching Barbie and I had no idea that it was this highly anticipated. I didn't think it would beat Oppenheimer much less double it up. High rotten tomatoes score too, 90%. It's Barbie wtf.

Im mildly curious now. Not enough to go to the theater but I am curious as to how this could actually be a great movie.

I haven't seen the movie, so you could be right. I understand that right wing commentators could be overreacting, but I am only going off what I know about the plot itself.

I just don't see how the word "patriarchy" makes it into a Barbie movie, not unless it's some one off jab. That is serves as a story element and is presented as a major theme kind of exposes their hand in my opinion.

This doesn't sound innocent to me.

Like you I haven't seen anything, but the Barbie toys themselves have been woke for years and years now, maybe even decades. They were one of the first things to go woke, before the woke storm even happened. Barbie was an easy attack by old school feminists. So to me it shouldn't surprise anyone that there would be wokeness to the movie.

It's cool to entertain the WHY, but if the curiosity leads you to seeing the movie, you fell into the trap of even releasing those figures haha. I mean, as far as I am concerned at this point... I don't believe anything they release. I dunno why it is relevant what people rate it on Rotten Tomatos (imo they have some terrible takes on movies. I still don't get what criteria that site is looking for, cuz they don't align with mine, for sure,) and how much money people made... kids movies are big. My friend brought 12 people I think to it, so if everyone is going with their whole group, it adds up. I doubt groups of kids and their mothers are going to see OPP.

When looked at it thru that lens, the 'double' is not that amazing. In fact, it's more like wow @ OPP.

Don't go see barbie. haha. Just do ya boy a favor. Trust me, the world will be a better place. I told that girl, too, but she was like yea well it was too late.

peace tho.

It is absolutely okay and perfectly normal for anyone, regardless of gender, to be curious and interested in watching the new Barbie movie, even if I won't be doing so myself.

While I might not have plans to watch this particular movie, it does not diminish the fact that others like Off the Court may find it intriguing, entertaining, or even thought-provoking. As individuals, we all have unique inclinations that must be respected.

Off the Court should not be ashamed or hesitant about his genuine curiosity. There's no reason to use the word mildly curious if you're genuinely curious. The fear of ridicule or judgment from others should not deter you from pursuing what genuinely captivates your curiosity. Embrace your curiosity without reservation.

It is very strange that he said that he's mildly curious and didn't follow it up with "I'll watch it if my girlfriend or wife wants to." I mean, that obviously has to be the only way a heterosexual man can see this movie about a doll that has been exclusively marketed to girls since 1959. It has to be.

For some reason, this post really hit the spot. It made me laugh out loud, which is rare for me. Because you have 2qr3 going on about how Off the Court should embrace his curiosity without reservation. And then that image in my head of Off the Court purchasing some Bud Light, watching the Barbie movie, as he then goes out about town to continue exploring the depths of his curiosity.

It's like if we were back in the 90s, that whole scenario would make a great music video. Off the Court soul searching, just fueling and pursuing his curiosity, and ending up finding that special someone. His Ken. Or better yet, his Dylan Mulvaney.
