i've seen better "highlights" on SC in today's nba on a random night in january.

ftr, pretty sure it's plays of the week not year if memory serves but i'm quoting the uploader so whatever. anyway, point stands...i don't pretend to miss duh 90s because of 'muh nostalgia' like so many others.

"pretty good" if you haven't watched an nba/wnba/college/aau game in 30 yrs maybe.

oh and you're welcome.

What play would you consider exciting? A breakaway tomahawk dunk?

Kblaze8855

Yea that’s plays of the week. Which is odd because number 8 has been talked about for 25 years. I just saw it on tik tok last week.

Lol bruh the #2 play of the year/week was a pedestrian free throw line alley. I mean I've seen better plays watching my son's 500 population town local high school basketball team.

That league had Kemp, Iverson, Jordan, Shaq, Grant Hill, Penny, and so on. You think whatever some producer chose as the second play of the week means there weren’t spectacular things being done?

People were getting the Rock Bottom and dunked on within 30 seconds of game time

The 90s undeniably had more exciting plays than today's 3pt contest. Particularly the dunkers... guys actually attacked the rim hard and were creative... today they mostly flop for calls. A Shawn Kemp highlight tape alone from back then was more inspiring than anything I see today.

is the 100th best play of the 2023 season better than eddie's "still being talked about 25 yrs later" dunk from duh 90s?

it's embarrassing watching lil mikey fangirls desperately cling to shit like a ft line dunk. clearly oblivious to the fact that half the league could do it if they wanted to but it hasn't been cool since a white guy did that shit 20 yrs ago.

Half the league could do it then. Toni Kukoc was never considered that athletic…

no, they couldn't.

Not literally half just like not literally half can now. But that’s the 6th-7h best athlete on the bulls doing it casually. It wasn’t a shocking feat of athleticism then or now but some could make it prettier than others.

Sometimes outside factors come into play. We don't know who prepared that segment, how much time they had to put it together, or what resources they had available. Maybe the whole project was thrown into some interns lap two hours before air time and this was the best they could come up with.

It’s not plays of the year. Number 4 is a Van Exel shot from December 21 3 days after the Eddie Jones dunk vs the bucks. It’s plays of the week before Christmas 1996.

So it's been established LeBron can dunk from the free throw line in a game but MJ can't.

But anyway, I remember being completely shocked at that Grant Hill dunk when I seen it back then but I could never remember who it was against. Awesome finally seeing it again.

One thing that sticks out is how much more athletic the players are today.

Also the defensive highlights are notable for a supposed soft defensiveless era.

There's a great clip somewhere online of Jordan's transition defense. His go to move was to duck and dip. Not even attempt to contest like LeChaseDown and so many more of today's players.

Op sounds desperate and like he's having a panic attack.

I think it's because he made the thread calling it plays of the year and afterward realized that they were for the week. So he started doubleling down on the agenda to compensate for the mistake.

LeWaaah.

You titled the thread, "1996-1997 NBA Plays of the Year." Jumping the gun. Saying that, you see better highlights on random nights in today's NBA. (It would be silly to make a whole thread about seeing better highlights on random nights versus some random week in the 1996-97 season).

You then realized your mistake, the thread was already created, and so you made a post that read like, "Um, if memory serves correctly, um, I'm pretty sure, I think, um, it's plays of the week, not year. Whatever, it's not my fault. My points stands."

And your point according to the OP is that the embedded video highlights the plays of the year for the 1996-97 NBA season.

If that hadn't been the case, then you wouldn't have created the thread, nor had a meltdown trying to hide your mistake. But if there was a thread, then it would have been called, "NBA Plays of the week from a Random week, 1996-1997." And there would have been no need for your second post.

Correcting your mistake before anyone else posted doesn't eliminate the fact that you created this thread thinking that they were the top ten plays of the year and not some random week.

I wonder why it's a zennial trait to disrespect everything prior to their time?

To make an analogy this is like saying a Ferrari F40 is a trash vehicle just because there are newer supercars that have quicker lap times, more comfort, safer, etc.

From a value perspective the F40 will always be a much greater car than an Enzo despite the upgrades. The issue is people aren't even comparing an F40 and an Enzo, because at least they're in the same class. Instead they spend more time trying to convince us a Corvette ZR1 is better than an F40 with a straight face.

So you're more or less saying Jordan is a dino, with a dino game, who played vs other Dino's, with dino rules. I agree with all this. I've said on more than one occasion we really shouldn't be (but it's fun) comparing lil Mikey to modern players in the modern NBA. Jordan is like a wing bill Russell if you will.

Good take, friend.

Is an F40 that was produced from 1987–1992 any less of a dinosaur to an Enzo produced 2002–2004? Neither are as advanced as a LaFerrari.

There's also nobody with a brain who will say a LaFerrari or Enzo is greater car than an F40 despite being more advanced. Even if the F40 is better, does that make the other 2 trash?

How about hypnotize these girly thoughts out of your head and put some bass in your voice and stop playing these immature nerdy teen games. Just respect all great players just like someone with common sense should recognize that all 3 supercars are great in their own right.
