I’ve been confused the last several years on here with the kinds of teams people refer to as being super. Often is just tied to whatever agenda they want to push so whoever they hating on automatically has a super team and whoever they’re supporting doesn’t. Because of that, it’s hard to tell what people would think outside that scenario. It obviously isn’t purely a question of simple performance. It’s names first…or at least it seems to be. You get the super team label before you play a game.

I’m going to give you a few lists and you just let me know if you would personally consider them a super team or just a team with a really good core of players.

Everyone prime and healthy. Which teams do you call super assuming they have a solid supporting cast as well?

Ja Morant
Ray Allen
Karl Anthony Towns

John Stockton
Vince Carter
Bam

Jason Tatum
Rasheed Wallace
Tony Parker

Jokic
Paul Pierce
Mike Conley

Kevin Garnett
Carmelo
Kyle Lowry

Steph
Chris Bosh
AK47

Tmac
Pau
Peja

Jason Kidd
Amare
Klay Thompson

Dirk
Reggie Miller
Stephon Marbury

Would all of those groups plus a solid supporting cast fit your personal criteria of a super team?

A lot of it is driven by the off-season storylines. I would say for at least three of those teams If they came together suddenly on a team no more than one of them were previously on they would be called superteams.

For me:

Jokic
Pierce
Conley

Prime Paul Pierce was better than Jamal Murray (quite easily imo) and Conley is better than anybody else the Nuggets have which just won the title in strong fashion so that's a dominant squad.

Curry
Bosh
Kirilenko

Another crazy trio. Raptor Bosh was unbelievable out of the triple threat midrange and Kirilenko is basically a Russian Swiss army knife version of dray. If he dies he dies this team could be with some decent role players. Probably higher ceiling than klay and dray tbh which was already a 70 win team.

Kidd
Amare
Klay

Couldn't even imagine the lob potential between jkidd and amare. If he could do it with Kenyon Martin and Tyson chandler and lead Finals teams playing with Stoudemire would be absurd. Klay for the spacing enhances the dynamic.

Dirk
Reggie
Marbury

If we leave Marbury out an bring in a floor general type this could be an unbelievable pairing of shooting and scoring ability. Give me like... Malcolm brogdan in his place and they're a lights out offense. And for playoff games that come down to the wire Reggie and Dirk is game over.

Difficult to answer. I will say that Dirk, Reggie, and Marbury would be nice. They complement each other well. I watched a video on AI the other day and Marbury got to the rim more than him. Reggie roaming around with Dirk setting screens for Stephon.

When Marbury was on the Knicks doing 22/8? He shot less per minute than Brogdan has the last 5 years. Obviously he isn’t that kinda straight up shooter but he didn’t shoot as much as you probably feel like he did. All those guys just played 40 minutes. Mike Conley shot more per 36 than Knicks Marbury 4 years straight. Phoenix Marbury was taking 16 shots per 36. He wasn’t really a volume guy compared to guys today outside of when the Nets wanted him to carry it nightly.

Winning probably influences perception here. So the combinations with champions and/or mvp already on their resume would be the most likely to attract the label.

True I watched him on the Nets and past that so it might have skewed my perception of him. I know he had extreme talent.

Stephon Marbury racked up some assists!

it definitely does. I saw some people arguing that Tim Duncan was on a super team his entire career which for anyone old enough to remember his entire career is ridiculous. He was just winning his whole career, so people called whatever team he was on super in retrospect.

Superstars win you chips.

Hope that helps answer your question.

That really really isn’t the case though. There will never be enough titles to go around.

It generally is required that you have a superstar on your team if you want to win a chip. It's exceedingly rare that a team without one wins.
