“I don’t know what it’s like to sit in that front office and have things dictating to you like a plan, and it appears LeBron is. I don’t know for sure that he is, but it’d be maddening as a teammate to know that you can be expendable for one of his guys that he thinks he needs to play with. The iffiness it causes with the team, the iffiness that it causes upstairs.”

Lebron certainly wouldn't have been happy with a lot of the garbage Stockton played with

Players are generally at the mercy of GMs owners and coaches. James having his agenda and picking favorites is no doubt annoying but how different does that really make things?
Now if I was James I wouldn't want to be viewed as the shadow gm with all that comes with that but he seems to be comfortable with things. But I would prefer just finding a well-run organization and then let them work things out.

Upstairs possibly. With his teammates, absolutely not. All you have to do is watch them play and you can see the chemistry. It looks like they're having the time of their lives playing with legoat. Very few exceptions, like Westbrook draining the life out of everyone, is one obvious example.

He doesn't listen unless you make him. Some guys internalize criticism differently, and Chalmers has a hard shell, according to LeBron. Here's how Gutierrez puts it: "Because it feels like you have to scream just to have him listen. Even when he does listen, there's no guarantee Chalmers is actually accepting the information."

Imagine using heat players yelling at Chalmers as an example of LeBron teams.lacking chemistry. This is why fat people and foreigners shouldn't be allowed to post about sports.

Remember when he convened a "War Room" and decided to go after Westbrook?

I would imagine that its much different to have the front office that they probably don't interact with nearly as much have a hand in your fate vs the teammate you are playing with everyday. If you have a powerful teammate doing that you're probably thinking something as miniscule as after every bad play in practice could get your ass shipped out eventually - you're probably not as worried about that with the GM.
This is what's lost in the whole argument about "well GMs can do this, why can't players"? Players are too close to the situation. The dynamic between teammates, which is essential when it comes to chemistry, etc. is likely significantly impacted. As bad as Westbrook was, are we really to believe all the noise outside largely due to Lebron's feelings regarding trading him didn't have an impact on that? Back in Cleveland, Kevin Love was in trade rumors all the time with the implication being he wasn't good enough to be Lebron's no 2 or 3 - are we really to believe that didn't have any impact on his mental health, when he has stated without naming any names that the pressure and scrutiny he was under caused alot of that?

What years were those? Who were all the teams Cavs were supposedly talking to "all the time" with the intent to "trade Love"

Channing Frye called the 2016 cavs the best chemistry team he's ever played on so there's that.

Pretty naive to think he doesn't do it.
And his ego and entitlement don't get the front office organise it.
That is might be his plan when he gets there...but then he always fails with what he starts with...so he needs to take over to get the cherry picked pieces and also the players he organised himself.
Every player knows he will stab you in the back at any moment.
The guy is just an entitled piece of shit

It somewhat changes who they have to be concerned with impressing and how much but a guy near the end of the rotation is just as insecure if James doesn't meddle than if he does. James influence just means he has the GM watching him on practice along with the coach. The impact of that is that instead of the coach telling the GM he sucks trade/cut him James could also say that or conversely James could disagree with the coach to have him cut out save his job. It's an added variable but it doesn't change the guy's level of job security. And this is something that happens in a lot of teams just their stars aren't as blatant about it as James and don't go as far.
Kevin Love mental health issues are unfortunate but not James's fault. He is an NBA star that has been on a number of teams that played in the finals, he better be able to cope with pressure.
But I do concede that it creates a weird and sometimes uncomfortable dynamic.
