These Suns teams have been weird because everybody hates KD, Booker, and Paul. No one outside of Suns fans have anything good to say about them, and sure as hell aren’t rooting for them to win.

But in the past Phoenix always seemed to have fan favorites who kinda transcended the sport or at least the Suns organization.

Barkley, Nash, KJ, Dan Marjerle, Jason Kidd, Amare, etc. were all loved outside of Phoenix to a certain extant. People who aren’t Suns fans would root for these guys.

But now? No love. Lol.

and thats weird isn't it? Book has never been a douche, a lot of players actually talk highly of him...whole reason CP3 and KD came to phoenix is because of Booker. they went from being seen as a lottery team to being hated overnight bc of their bubble/finals run. There was no in between.

Them being villains and everyone wanting them to lose is like some uncharted territory for Suns fans. Of course not everyone was rooting for Nash but you best believe there were a grip of white boys outside Phoenix who weren’t even that into basketball who were watching and rooting for Nash. Same with Barkley. He had a cult following all the way back in the 90’s. Everybody loved dude. You tell people you are a Suns fan and someone will bring up how much they liked Barkley or Nash.

Idk Booker might be a race thing. Whatever it is fools don’t like him.

Naw he was for sure. If you’re a Suns fan you knew just by talking to random white Americans. If basketball or the Phoenix Suns got brought up they all say the same thing. “I don’t watch much basketball but I liked that Steve Nash guy.” Pretty common back then actually and even today. I remember watching those Nash teams at bars in LA and Los Angelas white boys who didn’t follow basketball were paying attention.

Plus he was referenced in that pop song by Nelly Furtado. White little pop chicks were rocking with Nash for a second.

He definitely transcended basketball a little bit.

I suppose it’s possible. Phoenix is very flat city I’ve read so I’d lack any gently rising hills to clown you from the top of and watch you give out of breath as you climb it to confront me while I casually back further out of reach till your labored breathing and accumulation of under boob sweat let me know the time was right to strike. Anakin Skywalker couldn’t even overcome the high ground and you sir…are no Anakin Skywalker.

On ground of your choosing with no natural barriers you might prove quicker in a straight line than like to think like a hippo. I have a healthy respect for nature so I’d be disarmingly charming in person. I’m actually very approachable.

So who is actually starting at the point and being in the 1 spot for sets for the suns on day one?

Is it Beal? Booker? You’re just giving the ball to someone who can dribble it?

Isn’t Vogel a coach like Thibs who doesn’t even bother much with offense? Is the plan to make them a great defensive team and let the sheer talent of the offence figure that side out? I barely mentioned the suns this off-season, because I just don’t know what to make of them. They’re like the ultimate version of the modern strategy of just stacking people with name recognition on one team and hoping it works out quickly before they get too expensive.

Didnt work for the Nets but maybe it would have if they were healthy.

I don’t even know how to form an opinion till I see them put it together on the floor. It’s almost like when the Mavs had Dirk, Nash, Jamison, Walker, and Josh Howard. Feeeeeels like it should be good but has so much train wreck potential because you don’t know how the puzzle fits together.

they literally have the highest paid assistant coach in the league, and that's by design. he was interviewed for the head coach vacancy but settled on taking a ridiculous salary to stay with the team. CP3 said he's an offensive guru.

whats to figure out on offense? any one of the 3 drives, passes to open man after the defense collapses rinse and repeat.

Kblaze8855
08-30-2023, 11:57 AM
I was actually about to check to see who their assistants were. Figured it might be a situation like Rivers or Byron Scott would build, where he’s technically the coach but someone else runs the offense or defense. Thibs and Eddie Jordan made their names that way.

and yes, I’ve seen all the relevant players play over the years and recently, and don’t question anybody’s ability to bring the ball up but that isn’t always enough. It just depends on the offense. There are teams that don’t need a point guard in the traditional sense and teams that need that coach extension on the floor.

Someone might be taken out of their comfort zone. Or maybe they score 126 a game.

I don’t believe anything strongly enough to even make a prediction. I just know I take two games off the total for Ayton flat ironing a porn stars hair on Instagram.

Does it make any difference? Beal is not making any passes that Book is not capable of and the reverse is true. The shump video you posted was a cool story but that's what makes Lebron so damn special... he unlocks more options in an offensive set than anyone else. And that really showed up in the WCF last year... Malone was scheming that same thing Shump talks about the very beginning of that video cheating off the weak side. As good of a series as Book had he struggled with that pass.

Between the two of them I’m not sure it does matter, but ideally, I’m not sure it would be either one. Steph Curry is one of the five or six best ball handlers of all time, but that doesn’t mean he needs to have the ball. Like I’ve been saying, it just depends on how you want to play. it looks like they won’t have much choice but to be a bit of a your turn….now my turn…now his turn offense where everyone is also looking out the side of the eye for Ayton to come open around the basket.

that kind of thing doesn’t always work immediately. LeBron, wade and Bosh all know the game and it still didn’t work immediately. What’s the timeline before this team cost 500 million total with the tax?

if they don’t win this year, do they blow it up if it’s not looking great next deadline?

but yes, i acknowledge there is great potential for a catastrophic finale. anytime you assemble something of this magnitude where the majority of the talent concentration is distributed between 3 players, the result is a risky ride. if they don't win, it will be all for nothing and i have no clue how you clean up that sort of shitshow when you don't have 1st round picks.

That part, I don’t think will be an issue. Ayton is on what’s going to look like a very small contract in the coming years and given enough touches? He will be productive enough so you can flip a home to a bad or middling team that wants to go up a level, and there will always be a star ****er franchise like the Knicks perpetually under the belief they are a piece away who will trade picks for a name like Kevin Durant they can’t ever get to sign there even in a year or two.

unless you win the next two titles, this team has to get broken up in year three or one year of them will cost what an NBA team would have cost eight or nine years ago. Even the best owner won’t spend 500 million for West finals run will he?

I’m talking this team and the Paul teams when compared to other memorable Suns teams. It’s obvious people were and are strongly rooting against KD and Paul. Which is a lot different than the Barkley or Nash eras. Casuals loved those dudes.

I’m saying the Suns were always a pretty neutral franchise outside of Lakers fans but once Paul and KD came along there has been a little more venom directed towards them.

title is guaranteed.. it's a stone cold, lead pipe, lock

it will be #3 for KD..

given his superior scoring ability, brand of ball, team ceilings/Finals records, and also outplaying in H2H matchups, and also carrying Westbrook to Finals while Lebron missed play-in with Westbrook & AD - these factors will put KD above Lebron in my rankings after the 2024 Finals.

Devils advocate... what if the center position moves closer to the value of running backs in the NFL? Teams might be done investing draft capital and/or long extensions into centers heading into their late 20s. The exceptions at the top of the market like Embiid and Joker aside...what if teams value Ayton like we see the league shuffle around Drummond since he left Detroit?

You are not wrong. History supports you on this. Should Phoenix be looking ina year or two, a options to change course will be there. This is a league where Bynum got Dwight Howard in trade. I am just throwing ideas out there because what ifs are all i got to get my fix until the season tips :lol
