View Full Version : Coffee is the Biggest Scam in the World

A drink where you mix grounded black beans with water. Which alone tastes like garbage.
The only way to make this thing drinkable is throwing lots of sugar and cream (fat) into it.
The only reason you keep drinking this crap is because caffeine is addictive.
And then you pay $6-10 at these coffee shops to have some crappy black water in your hand that you sip.
And don't get me started on these 1000x different kind of lattes at coffee shops, which is just re-packaged sugar water ala bubble tea.
Mentally tough people don't need coffee.

I only drink coffee when it's free.
never understood buying coffee if you work an office job.
it's very very rare I ever pay for coffee, and I drink that $hit regularly...
Some people brew that $hit right when they wake up, which is not the correct way to consume coffee.
by the time I wake up and get to work, I've been awake 90-120 minutes... and I have FREE coffee waiting for me.

Paying for black water because people created a caffeine habit mixed with status symbol of the starbucks cup.
Look at me, I'm cool because I walk around with black water in my hand.
It's funny because my GF has to have it every single morning and I get to observe the dependency first hand.

The question is why consume coffee in the first place?
That's just an opinion by some twitter poster.
Ever since working out 6 days a week for a few years now, I drink exclusively water and milk. I have increased energy all the time, great sleep. Coffee is is a placebo.

A gas station near me has $2 coffee and its very good. I love coffee.

dono ya 8ball, but ya trollin yourself by saying A. you don't make coffee at home. (Yeah, it's still expensive, but you can get a pretty decent bag of whole bean for about 12 bucks.) and B. you can't drink coffee black, and think it tastes bad.
I lost my taste for beer pretty early. I drank it as a teen and early 20s, but coming back it's like NO, but coffee is special. There are many kinds of coffee. There is light roast and dark roast. I prefer light roast. I actually enjoy some of the more smooth breakfast blends, and I've had some out of this world tasting stuff (but it was expensive.) The stuff I get now I just grab at the store for 11~ a pack. Def less than a dollar a cup. One cup a day. Drink it black. It's good.
I think even if you are a fan of putting stuff into your coffee, you should find something you can at least stand black. I don't think I've been to many coffee shops that had good coffee, real talk, but the world is super bent on dark roast. The problem with dark roast is it's A. less caffeine and B. you are tasting the roast and not the coffee. There are some OK ones, but generally coffee shop coffee is pretty meh. It's one of the fun things to do in your morning routine, to do your coffee thing. I grind, I put the plastic thing on the cup, put the filter on, heat the water, and pour over... get da bloom. It's wonderful. Then I pop an ice cube in it because I like to drink coffee in mouthfuls. Perfecto.
I've tried life without coffee, but it sucks. I can't imagine going out to get a coffee every morning, either. I pretty much always take a shit after I drink a cup of coffee, so I prefer to have my coffee, take a shit, etc, and then I'm all set for the day. Yay coffee.
Edit: @ the whole wait to drink coffee theory hue. I love food science. If you wait that long, it messes up the whole timing of your shit! COFFEE -> SHIT -> SHOWER cmonson.

Well coffee does have a fair amount of antioxidants, no? Plants dark in color (coffee beans etc) are usually pretty nutrient rich. Obviously you can still get both caffeine and antioxidants from plenty of other sources, but rather than have a caffeinated sparkling water and eating a can of black beans separately, you can just have a coffee.
I agree the cost of buying one at Starbucks includes a pretty steep markup, which if you dont need a place to actually sit for a while is probably not worth it. You can get a McDonalds coffee for a buck.
I actually try to avoid coffee if I'm feeling particularly tired, I just try to get through whatever I have to and get some rest. But if it's the start of the day and I'm feeling pretty good and fresh, a nice coffee is pleasant and can take my energy to the next level.

A friend of mine perfected the coffee with the best beans she could buy.
I still had to slap sugar in that to make it palatable.
What I see here is that you created a daily routine that involved coffee. I don't think you would replicate this coffee routine if caffeine was taken out of the equation.

You are talking about the caffeine portion of coffee.
People's energy levels reach higher levels if they are physically active. Hitting the gym often, running, etc. Caffeine is just a drug that gives you a boost.

Coffee is a miracle drug. Not because it stimulates you, but because you can actually sleep after consuming it. Can’t say the same about other stimulates.

You mean caffeine. And a lot of people can't sleep immediately after drinking coffee. And people besmirch cocaine but after a couple hours I can both eat and sleep on it. It's not crack or meth.

May be true, but I ain't mad. It's diff caffeine. I don't like MONSTER and tea has its place, but coffee has something different.
Also, what you said about your friend, that's not you... it's just like other things. I used beer as an example. I'm sure there is THE BEER for me, but you are really underrating the differences between coffees. There IS smooth coffee. How many beans you use is also part of it. You have to set off on your own coffee journey! But, that's cool if you don't wanna.
The worst thing I've done w/ coffee is back when I was exercising way harder, I would do coffee then exercise then shower and supposedly that tightens up your muscles. I don't drink max stronk coffee anymore, but I did. It's hard to explain, but it's something you can't get elsewhere. It's just a perfect morning drink. I believe certain things were put on this earth for certain reasons... just like I still think WEED is an amazing thing. I just already smoked a lifetime of it.
Ideally, you'd be able to enjoy... coffee, tea, beer, wine, hard alcohol, weed, etc... at their proper times. I do agree w/ drinking mostly water, though. Other than my one cup, I drink water. I don't see how people can pound carbonated beverages (you wanna start a thread, that's a fakn scam and probably a cause for people's poor health) and not drink any water...
I dunno. If you dislike bitter, there is less bitter coffee, if you dislike the aftertaste, good coffee doesn't have an after taste, really. Another thing has to do with the heat of the water, you can 'burn the beans.' Can't make you like coffee, but like I said, there is just so much that it's hard to imagine someone who dislikes coffee has tried enough to really understand that it can be good.
Edit:
You could say the same thing about chocolate. Both coffee and chocolate have an amazing taste that's buried behind tremendous bitterness. So it's not just the caffeine.
haha those 90+% cacao chocolates. That's some stuff that I can't handle. Like some break off a tiny piece. But, again, I've had a lot of caffeinated beverages. I didn't try many of the 'energy drinks,' but I've had some, and I can assure you coffee is just different. Chocolate is different, too. I can sleep after coffee haha. I think honestly 'real chocolate' might have more of an effect on me.
Thread synopsis: people are different, there are many interesting things on this earth!

Theres nothing quite like a great cup of coffee (which is hard to find in the US, and typically called "expresso" for some reason). I would probably drink more coffee if it was easier/cheaper to make real coffee at home, but the entry price for a basic espresso machines is like ~500ish.
I'll order coffee if im at a cafe that has good stuff, but if I want a caffeinated drink at home I'll just make a chai - which can easily be done on the stovetop and is better than coffee when made correctly (which is how I make it)

I have to disagree with you OP. Coffee tastes really good when you make it right, and I'm not talking about the sugary milkshake type of coffee either. I'm talking about a simple 3-4 ingredient coffee with milk (I prefer oat/almond milk), 1-2 pumps of sugar free syrup (vanilla or caramel), and maybe a dash of cinnamon. Mix it up and add some ice cubes in there. ****ing beautiful stuff. Wakes me up too

this, there are some places that just know how to get good beans and all you need after that is milk and sugar. there's a casino hotel in Globe, AZ that surprised me bc the free coffee tthey give you was so fckin good i had to ask for more so we can make it and put it in our thermals while we went to work.
there's another place in Phoenix called La Grande Orange, their in house brew is extremely good, went with the Guatemalan brew, just put 1/2 & 1/2 with some zero calorie stevia and that shit was so fvcking good for a non-sugary coffee.
but yes, a good bean made in one of those expensive espresso machines is a different level, personally don't think it's buying a $1000 espresso machine for but if a restaraunt has one, why no.
