I found that extremely interesting considering all the new modern forensic technologies and DNA databases. It's not like we don't have the capability when motivated. Serial murders peaked in the late 70s, early 80s and they are a tiny fraction of that today.

Burglary and arson are one of the few areas were we have gotten better at solving these crimes. I'm wondering if it's because private insurance agencies, in addition to the government, are involved in solving the crime.
Another interesting note is Honolulu is consistently one of the worst cities in solving murders, almost always top 5. Usually one of the 3 worst in the nation. How do you live on a freakin island and have a hard time solving murders compared to the mainland? :lol
