First full scene I’ve ever seen of the show(not counting YouTube clips) is magic walking into Jerry buss office and demanding he fire Paul Westhead, and Westhead having to walk in right by him and getting fired. Couple minutes later I’m seeing Adrian ****ing Brody who based on his hair has to be Pat Riley. I know this scene I’m watching now where he basically announced Jerry West as the coach and Jerry decides Riley is the coach and gives it away at the press conference actually happened. I’ve seen the real footage.
They also have Westhead literally holding a box of his shit looking at Riley accept the job like a sad puppy.
It just doesn’t work for me. I know all these people too well. I can see how it would be informative and entertaining to someone who doesn’t have that problem.
I saw Jeannie liked the way her dad was portrayed, but that’s the only positive I can remember hearing from any of these actual people.
I think it’s just too close for me. Can you imagine watching a show about Shaq and Kobe with actors playing them? You couldn’t possibly cast it in a way that wouldn’t be distracting right? That’s how this is for me watching Magic Johnson.
that said, the guy playing Kareem actually managed to draw me in for a second talking about how Buss just tricked a naïve magic with that 25 year $25 million contract that would make him look like a fool when that’s an average salary in a few years. Only got me for a second though. I gotta get outta this before Larry Bird walks in. There is nothing that actor will be able to do to not get on my nerves.

good list. stockyards is a dope steakhouse, phoenix staple. not a big fan of ramen so i cant comment about sosoba.
not a big fan of la pinata, it's american mexican food...which apparently is very popular in AZ bc the caucasians like mexican food but adapted to their taste buds. if you want to try the GOAT chimichanga (trus me i'm resisting making a sexual innuendo), try Rito's Mexican Food in the Garfield neighborhood. it's in the 'hood', real hole in the wall spot that serves a very good chimichanga. they're specifically known for chimichangas. they've been around for 50+ years for a reason. it's not hard to **** up a chimi, it's just a tortilla deep fried with meat in a sauce. but otther places put in way too many ingredients...like onions and tomatoes. rito's keeps it simple, carne in red or green sauce or both and that's it, doesn't overload it with other ingredients. and it's been done that way for 50 years. the owner lived in that neighborhood up until his death, now his kids run it and have other locations but the OG location is the best by far.

The first season is the best sports tv/film i've seen. the second one is rushed and feel like they knew they are getting canned.
I get your points, but still its entertaining show and its embellished version of reality, they are not tryin to be some kind of docufiction thing.

I tried to watch the 1st season but couldn't make it past the 2nd episode. The tone was all over the place. Incredibly juvenile writing, awful attempts at comedy. Cringe actually.
Surprised it even got a 2nd season, but then again everything gets a 2nd season these days. Can't imagine it's getting a 3rd. Nobody is f*cking watching this show.

Show is fantastic. Shame it got canned. With the season 2 finale of Bird’s Celtics winning no less :oldlol: poetic. You’re smocking rock. This was a gem. Even if you claim, it’s a caricature, it cuts all these people down to the core essence, weather, for entertainment, or informative purposes. Magic was a douche. Kareem was an asshole and a social outcast weirdo who couldn’t lead or incorporate teammates. A stat stuffing loser. Riley didn’t have the résumé of his boss, Jerry West, or the stars he coached as a player but both of them were insanely hypercompetitive. Jerry West, in real life is very humble about his own accomplishments, even under cutting himself. This was accurately portrayed in the series. “Doctor” Jerry Buss? A down to earth competitive guy, who is cool as shit and also seemed to be a shit load of fun and a womanizer. It all checks out.

I always tell people there is no amount of winning that will keep people from calling you a loser, and they may be no greater example than Kareem, who won three straight high school state championships, then went to college and won 3 straight national championships, then joined a year old expansion team in the NBA and won another title. He then won five more on the Lakers. From puberty to retirement every jersey he put on he won the championship there. Still, he’s a stat stuffing loser for not contending more with teams that shouldn’t have in the mid-70s.
Longest he went without at least leading a finals team in his life was 5 seasons from 75 to 80. He was a finals mvp at both 23 and 38.
Bringing a championship to every team he ever played on in his life obviously didn’t do it, so what would keep him from being a loser? Winning the one in 74 as well? A dozen lifetime championships isn’t enough but 13 would’ve done it for you?

Who cares about Amateur accomplishments against people that haven’t even grown into manhood, or in many cases, peaked yet?
Kareem won MVP and didn’t even make the playoffs in the same season.
He needed a top 15 player to win his championship in Milwaukee, and I guess another Mount Rushmore to win the lion share of his other championships where he wasn’t even his teams best player?
Nobody takes amateur accomplishments into consideration because it doesn’t matter. Why wouldn’t or shouldn’t a 7 foot 1 player be dominating high school competition?
The show winning time basically implies what I just said, he put up his stats, didn’t care about his teammates or winning games. And wasn’t a leader. Obviously, very talented, I’m not saying he’s not one of the games, greatest players of all time. But like Wit Chamberlain, tremendous talent, in a way, kind of a loser. The same could be said for LeBron, just not as dramatically.
Because at what point can you be critical then? Is Russell Westbrook a winner? Because he happened to win an MVP one season and put up hollow, meaningless, arbitrary, triple doubles that his teammates assisted him in compiling?
What a surprise coach thinks the three players who threaten his hero’s GOAT case the most (LeBron, Kareem and Wilt) are all losers. Just a coincidence I’m sure.

He won a championship in every jersey he ever wore. Every team his entire life that had him on it won a championship while he played for them. Only one of the four didn’t win at least three and it was literally an expansion team he was added to that had the second worst record in the league and won the only championship the franchise would see for 50 years. The words “winner” and “loser” have no meaning when we’re calling people losers who had a career of that magnitude. Even in this ridiculously hate fueled era where people are looking for an opportunity to inject their hate into any opening that will accept it we should be able to agree that people who never play for a team that doesn’t eventually win a championship for the entirety of their lives aren’t losers.
You out here making up arguments nobody on this planet ever presented to have a point to argue with. Asking if Russell Westbrook is a winner because of his stats as if anybody but you is even talking about Kareem‘s stats. You said he’s a loser. I said every team he ever played for won the championship which makes that a hard sell.
Too many people never win anything to be calling somebody who never failed to lead a team he played for to a title a loser. It’s just another example of our hater society. It is literally impossible to just be appreciated for your greatness because the mere existence of greatness calls people to question it like a ****ing dinner bell.

Calling Kareem a loser is baffling.
You can question his leadership and "personality" but not the winning. The same guy who WON on every level lol.
Aside from maybe an episode or two, Winning Time was a complete joke that appealed to the casual. Jerry West is nothing like that yahoo who plays him. Some raging-always-intoxicated alcoholic. Get out of here. :oldlol: Its no wonder Jerry demanded an apology or would sue.
Can't take Adrien Brody serious, either. He isnt Pat Riley and never will be. The little nuggets we hear from Chick Hearn are a joke too. You got all of Chick's one-liners but zero charm. :lol

Jerry West strikes me as the type of guy you would manage to drag out to a bar once maybe twice a year and would have one in a half beers and be super tipsy and go home.

Good luck managing to drag him out anywhere :lol His life was the Lakers, period.

On the one hand it was a very flawed show, but on the other we don't have much basketball programming like this and no matter what flaws they were with it, it was still fun to watch and filled a void in basketball.
So I will say I loved it because we don't have anything else like it. They're just aren't a lot of basketball TV shows.
So I would rate it 6 or 7 out of 10 on its own, but a 10 out of 10 in terms of filling a need. I hope we get to see the show again
