Why do many people defend illegal immigration in the US?

In most of the world, when people heard of illegal immigration, the vast vast majority would be unitedly against it. Citizens would support walls, deportation, anything it takes to curb this issue.

Why is it in the US it seems to me people are somewhat split on this issue? It's rather...strange. Or have I misunderstood the issue?

Guess who having all these migrants around affect most - less money/resources (police, teachers, health care workers) for Americans in need.
