considering he has demanded to be traded while under contract three times in the last four years or so he has to have just about as wrecked a reputation from a front office perspective as any star of his caliber ever had without legal troubles. Of the big-name players, who still have obviously starter status? He might be the least desirable player in the NBA, if you were a front office trying to stay drama free. They Clippers have made it clear they want him but not badly want him. Nobody can blame them for that with his behaviour.

The thing is he is on an expiring, he had a All-Star level season last year and he is healthy. I don't assume anything with Harden anymore, but it is likely he plays his ass off on a new team because it is his last chance to get a big pay day. If the Clippers think he is a piece that will help them win a ring this year, getting it done now is in there best interest, even if he is a rental.

Let's be serious, the likelihood of him playing in China in a year's time is very high now.
