Ok so off the bat this is impossible and this is for discussion sake, but what athlete would have the best chance at excelling in the NFL, MLB, and NBA?

LeBron is a first thought obviously but I don’t know how he would do at Baseball.

Steph with his hand eye coordination has a better shot at baseball. Football he’s not fast enough for a lot of positions. If he played at the weight he’s at now he could maybe play quarterback if it turns out he can handle the processing.

Kyler Murray was supposedly going to enter the MLB draft instead of the NFL. His height is an obvious problem in the NBA but he still has the tools to be a good player.

Danny Ainge. Kblaze was talking about Danny Ainge being all american in all three sports. Ainge looks like he could play baseball and basketball, NFL i’m not sure what position he would play, probably would have to be a Quarterback.

Allen Iverson. His highschool football mix tape is pretty dope. He could maybe play a wideout or corner. He played qb but he’s just so small, maybe he could end up being a kyler murray type talent. It’s just pure speculation but seems like if he played baseball his whole life he could be a ball player.

MJ. Could play outfield in MLB and be a WR in the NFL.

Those are some names off the top of my head. Any additions to the list? Who do you think would be the most successful in all three sports?

Dave Winfield

Winfield also played college summer baseball for the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Goldpanners_of_Fairbanks) for two seasons (1971–72) and was the MVP in 1972. In 1973, he was named All-American and voted MVP of the College World Series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_College_World_Series)—as a pitcher. Following college, Winfield was drafted by four teams in three different sports. The San Diego Padres selected him as a pitcher with the fourth overall pick in the MLB draft. Winfield was also drafted by the Atlanta Hawks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Hawks) (NBA) in the 5th round of the 1973 NBA draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_NBA_draft) and by the Utah Stars (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Stars) (ABA) in the 6th round of the 1973 ABA Draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABA_Draft).[8] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Winfield#cite_note-8)[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Winfield#cite_note-9) Though he never played college football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_football), the Minnesota Vikings (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Vikings) selected Winfield in the 17th round of the 1973 NFL Draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_NFL_Draft). He is one of five players ever to be drafted by three professional sports (the others being George Carter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Carter_(basketball)), Noel Jenke (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Jenke), Mickey McCarty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_McCarty) and Dave Logan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Logan_(American_football))) and one of three athletes along with Carter and McCarty to be drafted by four leagues.[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Winfield#cite_note-10)

Damn. Did not know that. I remember watching Dave Winfield get the World Series winning hit for the Jays way back in the day.

LeBron is into baseball so I imagine he’s played. Even if he hasn’t played fr remember MJ was not a baseball player and he managed to hit over .200 in double a (much harder than it sounds). He’d probably be the safest pick, assuming you get prime athletic LeBron.

I’m not trying to pick a fight we can agree to disagree but I don’t see LeBron’s hand eye coordination to be at the level to hit in the MLB. If MJ was struggling at it I don’t see LeBron doing better. And for Jordan’s very late start and the limited time he played, he did well and perhaps could have made the league if he kept going.

LeBron is almost too big for baseball too. His swing mechanics would be awkward and he would have a gigantic strike zone, I don’t know, I don’t see it happening personally.

he'd have to be a pitcher at that height and you don't just become a pitcher because you are athletic

Yeah, that’s what i’m getting at. And I don’t see him as a pitcher either. You need to have a special type of mental composure to be on the mound.

you need to have played the sport growing up. Being a fan isn't going to do it

Yes. Even here we are talking a lot of hypotheticals and even if LeBron played his whole life I don’t see him being a good baseball player. It’s not a knock on him as an athlete at all. This whole 3 sport situation eliminates a lot of the greatest athletes because their talents wouldn’t translate to one of the sports very well. It’s trying to find someone who can hit all of the bases no pun intended.

I think it depends case by case. Jerry Rice didn’t play football until he was a sophomore in highschool. There’s quite a few cases of guys picking up a basketball in their teens and becoming super skilled as well. Embiid comes to mind. You have to watch out when using those guys as examples though because they are such outliers they don’t operate within the normal rules really.

Baseball though for sure you need to be playing a lot from an early age

sure in your teens is different. Some of those guys didn't pick up bad habits and learned to play the right way from the beginning. Also being 7' doesn't hurt. Dumbass is trying to sell us on Lebron being able to start playing baseball out of nowhere and being great at it

Deion Sanders easily... He was already a great professional two sport athlete with baseball and football. He mentioned that the origin of the name "Prime Time" comes from a basketball game in high school where he dropped 37 points.

Lebron 100%, in baseball he would basically be Randy Johnson.

He’s already widely known for a ‘Big Unit.’

Travis Kelce 6′ 5″ played basketball, football, and baseball in highschool. Probably will go down as the GOAT tight end or at least in the debate.

Could see him dominate at the small forward in the NBA. In the MLB, could see him as a great outfielder and smashing homers.

I think there a few guys that could do it. He's just one that came to mind.

Dave Debusschere. He was a starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers while playing for the Pistons. Not too much of a stretch to see him as a tight end as well, though I don't know if he was.

Jim Thorpe is the only one I know of who actually played all three sports professionally.

I was thinking of Mahomes. His dad was an MLB player and he obviously has the gifted arm. Basketball would be obviously the toughest one for him. He could be a big and physical point guard perhaps. Jason Kidd type. He would probably be better in older more physical versions of the NBA.

Jason Kidd is one too. I could see him playing both football and baseball.

Of the people not mentioned at a glance….

Randy Miss. go watch high high school highlights with Jason Williams. And I’m sure he’d be a terror in the outfield.

I think Monta Ellis was a tennis prodigy too.

Nate Robinson was some bowl game mvp in football I think.

I don't think its possible anymore since the skill level needed for both NFL and NBA has increased since the 90s.

Yeah, I doubt he's a picture. Definitely more of a catcher.

Havlicek is a decent mention... He was drafted by both the NBA and NFL and also a very good baseball player as a youth.

James admitted as much in a recent video shared by the Uninterrupted, noting that with the way Lacrosse is played, his physical tools and skills are just perfect for the sport. “If I wasn’t the GOAT in basketball, what other sport I would be the GOAT in? Lacrosse. And I’d be a beast out on the field. (https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-drops-bold-goat-claim-but-not-in-basketball) It’s fast, it’s physical, I got pretty good accuracy when it comes to things,” James shared.
